Opinions please: What did you think of Princess Diana's wedding dress?

I remember staying up and watching the wedding live.I thought the dress was ugly. I would have loved her in something more form fitting but extremely elegant and regal looking. I also disliked the 3/4 length sleeves on the dress. She was tall like me and had long arms. Then there was a tv special done on the couple who made the dress and all the work they did from start to finish along with their employees to get it done. People all over the world raved about the dress but I will never forget how much I disliked it. Below is a video of the dress being removed from a crate and displayed.

It was what an 18 year old princess would choose as her wedding dress. I don't think a grown 30 something year old princess or woman would choose something like that.......It's too Cinderella.. like a little girl playing dress up. But it was pretty.

It was almost an exact replica of a dress the Emmanuels made for the wedding of an aristocratic couple who were Charles's friends who were married earlier that year. It was big and dramatic and was suitable for the setting of a massive cathedral. The dark ivory color was a good choice for the TV cameras, showed a lot of detail which would have been washed out had the color been lighter. Also, it made the almost six-foot tall Diana look petite and delicate. The little sequins on the bodice and on her veil sparkled nicely as she walked down the aisle with her father. The wrinkling that occurred is simply a characteristic of the fabric, a lightweight silk taffeta. (What, you think a future princess would wear a polyester wedding dress?)

Look up pictures of Princess Margaret's 1960 wedding dress. She was older than Diana at the time of her marriage and looked absolutely elegant and lovely. The Duchess of York's gown for her 1986 wedding was individual, very reflective of her personality, and really flattering.

I can't watch "SYTTD." Saw just a few episodes and it's too crazy. How insecure do you have to be to need to have the approval of 10 friends and relatives before you choose your wedding dress? Especially when the bride-to-be tries on a dress in the fitting room, loves it, only to have her joy punctured by the lukewarm reaction from her committee. Plus everyone wants strapless, not a universally flattering style. I miss the old days, when dresses had sleeves and necklines. Much more variety and interest.

yes, the strapless thing is so annoying. not one bride wears sleeves or a higher neckline by the looks of it (much like in 4 weddings). they all look the same now

nope, dislike. too dated and it drowned her. far too much going on, they should have stuck with something a little simpler but when royalty is cornered, simple is rarely acceptable

Find pictures of Princess Margaret as a bride. I think the year was 1960 and I think she was 30 at the time. Her dress was white sink organza, not a sequin or a speck of lace in sight. Very simple, topped by a tall tiara (PM was very petite). Really a classic. And she was just beautiful. Hourglass figure and large, limpid eyes.

wow. she looked wonderful and the dress is nice and simple, stark but emphasising her figure. thanks for drawing my attention to that

Wow, this thread is 6 yrs old. It's funny how now almost no bride picks a dress with long sleeves or any for that matter. I'm old school so I do love the wedding dresses from the 40s,50's , 60s & 70's. Especially the ones with a lot of detail in the back too. Makes for lovely wedding photos. I have seen many beautiful dresses on this show but I will never go for the half naked hooker look.
