Way too much diffusion filter

Someone must have thought it makes the picture look "dreamy" or "172 years ago" but it just looks like a blurry mess. Knock it off!

Are you referring to how dark it looks? If so, I agree! It’s hard to tell what’s going on in the scenes unless you’re in a dark room watching this on tv, and even then it looks so dreary. Colors of the show are a bit too muted; I think they went a bit overboard on that aesthetic. Some of the brighter scenes are the nicest visually.

Indoor scenes do look dark because they were going for the natural light look, but I was referring to the blurry nature of a diffusion filter. It looks a little better in bright scenes but reduces local contrast in already hard to see dark scenes.

Didn’t they do this in The Hobbit? Not a fan of it there, or here either.

"Diffusion filter"

So my enemy has a name? Good to know, thanks.

You can try it at home by putting a nylon stocking on your head or smearing petroleum jelly on your eyeglasses. Really.

"This effect can also be improvised by smearing petroleum jelly on a UV filter or shooting through a nylon stocking."

Digital form of this filter mixes a blurred version of an image with the original.
