So what is the deal with Alicent? **spoilers probably**

Is she some scheming genius? Seems like someone is putting some kind of poison on the iron throne. Is she in some kind of pact with the hand? The scene where he asks if she is seeing the king that night and she says "if you wish it" seemed to imply there was something going on. Seems like Daemon might be right about the King being weak and his Hand being a cunt. She is always tearing up her fingernails, which implies she is supressing her real feelings all the time. Can't quite work out what her motivations would be though.

If it was poison then it started before the queen was dead. Her father put her up to see the king, without her father's approval she would not have that much access to the king, without her father's approval the king would not have seen her that often.

So it was not her. At least I don't think so.

It was not her father either, the king trusted him, no reason for him to do that. If it were her father then he would have to arrange the queen's death and predict the king would marry his daughter, which is not straightforward and way too many variables and way too much risks.

And Alicent has to produce a male heir in time for all that to work, so I don't think it was her father either.

But Alicent wanted to be queen, that much was clear, she was nervous when the king announced it. And she did show interests in politics and power, she was quite upset when Rhaenyra did not concern at all about her position if the king was going to have a son.

Her nervousness was understandable, as a smart girl she knew her marriage was not in her control, it was quite clear her interactions with the king were not entirely out of obligations because of her father, she put efforts in them.

The same person poisoning the King could have also poisoned the queen as she was giving birth, since both she and the baby died. Consider Daemon's comments about him being a weak king. I smart person could maybe have seen his weakness and planned for Alicent to get close to him and prey on his weakness. It just requires knowing his character and being good at manipulation.

The king's death, if untimely, could probably benefit Daemon the most, but he does not seem to be the type.

I am more inclined to think Otto saw an opportunity, and so did Alicent.

Also if it was poison it worked way too slowly, took years to kill the king. According to wiki the king and Alicent had 3 kids before he dies.

It has to work slowly to avoid suspicion. Since dying in childbirth in common, it was would have been easy to poison the queen without suspicion. It was the King who made the decision to sacrifice the queens life because he was so desperate for a male heir. Again, a sign of his weakness of character.
Poisoning does definitely not seem like Daemon's style, and he is more rash than calculating. I also believe that he was telling the truth when he said he would protect his brother if he was his Hand.
I can't see any motivation for any other character to poison the king when his wife was pregnant. Unless they were gambling on her giving birth to another girl. But then Daemon would have been the heir anyway. Seems like part of a bigger plan.
