Ellen Burstyn

Amazing as always, but wasn't she a bit too old to be the mother of two women in their late twenties/early thirties? Grandmother, yes, but Mother? She would have been in her mid-50's when she gave birth to them.

reply

Agreed, EB is wonderful and regardless of HER age, Martha is way too young to be the daughter of a woman born during the Holocaust.

Yes, that was ridiculous. At first I thought perhaps the film was set in the 80s, but no.

Perhaps they were adopted?

Re Burstyn’s performance, while it’s always nice to see her on screen, I was a little baffled by the level of acclaim she’s been receiving. She had very little to do for most of the film. Then she had that one late monologue which she knocked out of the park. Fine work by a great actress.

reply

Eh, yeah that you mention it.

Her wiki says she was born in 1932.

Vanessa Kirby was born in 1988

Iliza Schelsinger in 1983.

She would've had to have been 51 & 57 years old to give birth to them.

That's wayyyy too old

But for the sake of a great movie, I can just say maybe her wealth allowed her two births in her 40s and ignore the rest of those years, as she did a great job.

Also, they did say that she had aged tremendously in a few months, so maybe she was playing someone significantly younger, who was showing the signs of aging?
