Good point, I guess they couldn't bother to think it through. Going by the show, however, the family line was carried on through Barnabas' young cousin, Daniel, who was ten when Barnabas died. He was from the New York branch of the family, presumably descended from Amadeus Collins, whose brother, Isaac, founded Collinsport late in the 17th century.
