Too Slow

It reminded me of Star Trek the Motion Picture (1979) in the sense that it was a little too in love with its own visuals, to such an extent that they dragged them out and really dwelt on them. The movie could have had thirty minutes cut out.

And the kid being a fantasy of his daughter (who happens to be Felicity Jones) was dumb and unnecessary.

Aye. As soon as I saw the kid and she was silent I said, "hallucination" and sure enough, it was. I don't like hallucinations in any movies or video games, it's unrealistic and shows/games then tend to spend way too much time on things that are not real.

Some of the space stuff was alright, and all we learned about the origin of the troubles on earth was that there was a "mistake".

The big elephant in the room is that there is no earth-like moon orbiting Jupiter capable of sustaining human life, immediately taking a person out of the movie because of how unrealistic it is. In real life, the closest earth-like beyond Mars; would be the moon Europa which does orbit Jupiter, which apparently has an ocean underneath the ice, but there is no atmosphere and is absolutely frigid.
