Was this movie supposed to be kid friendly?

I don't remember much from the goosebumps books, because I read them when I was much smaller. I do remember that they freaked me out plenty though.

But when I saw the previews for this movie, I knew it wouldn't do the books justice. Watching it now I was right. However, was the movie intended for children? Because it doesn't seem to be

I think they had to somewhat target it to kids because it's based on kid's books, yet still make it appeal to adults, since the books came out in the 90s and the original audience are all adults now.

My generation had two Indiana Jones movies and Gremlins with a PG. Oh, and the charred remains of Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru. Granted, some of those are the movies that helped create PG-13, but:

No blood, and the one guy who gets attacked is shown at the end back in school with a neck brace.

Its a PG movie, so yeah.

There are lots of scary elements and scenes, but nothing too intense. There is no blood or gore or non-comical violence. No one actually dies or gets injured.

Watched this tonight with my 10 and 8 year-old girls. The 10 year-old was a little creeped out. It was a fun movie, but some of it was pretty dark. Zombies, for one. Also, my daughter got freaked out by Slappy in the hall of mirrors.

Overall, there was a good dose of humour that watered down the horror.

It does have its scarier moments and some of the dialogue is surprisingly "adult", but in the end the movie's tone isn't that dark. Furthermore, it's devoid of the swearing, violence, and total creep factor that would be considered inappropriate for kids. So yeah, it was supposed to appeal to kids.

Although I would say it was definitely made to appeal more to a slightly older audience, there's no way they would've made this unsuitable for kids considering they were the books' target audience.

You want something corny? You got it!

I think that this movie is great for teens and 'evergreens' like me. The creepy comic book look of the movie was done well and just right for comfortable viewing with just that bit of horror tingle about it.

I think it’s supposed to appeal to everybody, I think they succeeded at it.

reply

I feel the show was more creepy than this.
