This is a great Tarantino movie, Jackie Brown was the bad one and the Hateful Eight is overrated. I'll watch this one over and over before I watch those other two again.

Apparently there is something in this film that most of the people, including myself, miss. Jackie Brown was also below Tarantino's skills, but at least it did not bore us to death by conversations that we tried to figure out their relevance with the movie. Moreover, 'Death Proof' lacekd of main point that i was trying to find by opening this conversation.

I am a car guy, and in particular a MOPAR guy. The chase/battle at the end of the movie is a top 10 or maybe even top 5 car chase in movie history. It redeems this movie for me. I can skip the first half of this movie and watch the second half over and over.

Even if it were not for the car chase this movie would still have Kurt Russel going for it. He is awesome, somehow managing to be both creepy and cool at the same time.

If you are not a car guy, or not a fan of car chase, I can understand why you did not like this movie, but I love it. A great car chase with a great performance by one of my favorite actors make a fun and re-watchable movie.

It's Tarantinos best movie.

Really? In terms of what? Script? Cinematography? Directing? Because the hateful eight and pulp fiction best it at these 3 at least

reply

In terms of me liking it, which is the most important aspect of all.

It has a good cast, good concept, great stunt work and very importantly better pacing than most of Tarantinos movies, it's his most entertaining movie.

In terms of me liking it, it's very good but not better than the hateful eight or pulp fiction. To each his own

Yeah I really wanted to like this movie as I’m a huge fan of Tarantino, Russell and horror movies - but I find Death Proof to be so underwhelming . I like a few scenes with Russell and McGowan but that’s it.

No movie with Mary Elizabeth Winstead in a cheerleader outfit can possibly be described as "the worst ever!"

I've seen it about 2 times. It's generic. The Laplace went on way too long. Arlene Jan, and jungle Julia got way too much screentime. It felt like filler.

But, the intent was that if you only watch the opening, Stuntman Mike is a villian.

If you only watch the end he's a victim.

Nice idea but boring flick.

Well, sort of. In the latter half he’s still repeatedly smashing into the girls’ car while Zoe is holding on for dear life - he’s trying to kill them. It’s only when they start to gain the upper hand by shooting him that he turns into a whiny bitch and they hunt him down like a dogs on a fox.

It was a rare occasion where a villain actually got what he deserved and suffered appropriately. People seem to forget what a sadistic, sick psychotic bastard he is in the first half, just because he turns into a little bitch later on.

I guess it feels weird because the girls chasing him down weren’t really victims of his brutality. Yeah he attacked them but no-one got hurt so shooting him, chasing him, battering him… and caving his face in wasn’t exactly ‘revenge’, it was fractionally sadistic itself.

But that’s what I like about Tarantino - shifting sympathies and questionable morality. I probably agree with Tarantino that it’s his worst film, but it’s the worst of a great bunch and still plenty entertaining. I’ve only seen the standalone version, my guess is the Grindhouse version is better paced.

The car chase was impressive for someone who's never shot a car chase scene. But, this movie seems like Tarantino was just messing around.
