I saw the stage play about 5 years ago

I have not seen the movie yet, but I saw the stage play in Kilburn, London about 5 years ago...

I went into it knowing nothing about it, I was just passing by when I saw that Kenneth Cranham was in the lead role, and I always liked him, so I got a last minute ticket. (Not a big theatre goer at all)

It was absolutely brilliant to be fair, very emotional.

I look forward to the film, but Kenneth Cranham was excellent in the role, I think Hopkins will be good, but to see the live stage performance was very special.

Well, I have just seen the movie...

And to me it doesn't compare very well at all to the play.

For me the movie was cold and un-involving until that very last scene... I had found the play riveting throughout.

The acting was Ok, but really not that special. I was pleased when Hopkins won the Oscar, but now having seen the movie I don't know if it was that deserved, Kenneth Cranham was so much more affecting in the play.

I guess because I knew the "Spolers" the movies effect was greatly lessened, but even so I just thought it was quite a drab uninteresting film (again until that last scene).

Rather disappointed, 6.5/10

I also felt that there was a single episode of The West Wing series that did pretty much the same story just as well.

Thank you for thst reminiscence. I can imagine it would make for a compelling play.
