Maybe I am wrong, but a Confederate division would not have been assigned to run a plantation. They would go to the front. A highly trained body of men acting as guards would be a waste. Even with the twist shown later in the movie. Only watched about ten minutes, and I have been turned off by what I saw.

Soldiers were quartered in private homes where they sheltered and were fed.

Anyway, this movie is extremely detailed and you need to look at things in the background to get clues about what is happening. Inaccurate factual details make sense if you watch the whole movie.
