Plot Hole?

I couldnt help but Notice A massive Plot hole.....Or I Think

I fully admit I'm not an expert...

but from what I know about Narcan...The ending of this movie Is Absurd.

I dont think Narcan Will Magically bring someone who is Legally DEAD, Heart has stopped from an overdose back to life

I think Narcan needs to be used when someone is overdosing but Not Legally dead.

I mean the ONLY possible way That The scenario would somewhat make sense is if the movie ended with....

Her Intentionally Overdosing herself, Legally being dead, Heart has stopped.

Then use Narcan and then someone else Immediately Use a defibrillator on her in an attempt to start the heart back up again, so her body would then start running normally for the Narcan to take effect.

Bottom line, She was DEAD....Narcan Isnt going to magically start her heart again....

Had she been Overdosing, stopped breathing, and been Near death but still had a heartbeat and then was hit with Narcan Then Ya, It could have brought her back...

But The Ending of this movie, according to have a know about Narcan is just absurd...

again though, I'm not an expert, Maybe I'm wrong and if someone could explain why I'm wrong I'd love to hear it

It can bring dead people back.

It is crazy stuff.

I mean you have to be just dead, not for long.

It can bring dead people back.

are you sure?

I mean actually Legally DEAD?...Literally Heart stopped, No Brain Function....

I've always Thought, once your heart stops....the ONLY possible ways to Get a pulse back/start your heart again...are CPR or have a defibrillator

I've seen Dozens of police videos where cops deploy Narcan on an ODing person...

In every case that person still has a Pulse....They may have stopped breathing or are having extreme respiratory problems, But THEY ARE NOT Legally dead when the Narcan is deployed...

If Narcan could Magically restart your heart, why use CPR or a defibrillator ?

Basically,I understand Narcan is a Miracle drug, It can Bring someone back that Is inches away from death, where they may not be breathing any more....But That Person still has a heartbeat, That person is NEAR death, Not actually DEAD...

again, The Main character in the movie shot herself with a lethal dose of Morphine that LITERALLY KILLED her....Heart stopped, DEAD....

For Narcan to work, she would have to regain a heartbeat again and have her body start functioning again for the narcan to start counter acting the Overdose of Morphine

It the movie, they simply injected a DEAD Body with Narcan....Narcan wouldnt Magically make the heart start again...CPR or a defibrillator would be needed first to remain a heartbeat and Normal Functions and then the narcan would counter and stop the Morphine and save her from ODing....

I'll do some research and see if I can find any case where someone actually ODed, and was Legally dead, and was then brought back to life with ONLY Narcan and no defibrillator ....again Maybe I'm wrong, But the more I think about...It seems impossible....

I've had training using it, and read about it. I know many people who have used it on others.

During the training I had the same attitude as you. It sounded impossible.

However, what's happening is the the opiates "turn off" your body. Narcan blocks the opiates and so your body "turns on" again.

In Philly lots of addicts have narcan on them because it's given out for free. So, you're with people shooting up and someone dies immediately, which happens a lot. Their hear is fine, they still have oxygen in their blood, and you hit them with the Narcan. They can suddenly turn back on and be in full detox mode since all opiates are blocked.

If someone has been dead for a bit, you still give it to them because PCR, etc may not work, if you don't.

So, we are talking seconds here.

ok so I did some research, I found several acticle's that I Will post that somewhat give good information, But I ended up finding a Definative answer that I will post first, that clearly states Narcan wont start a heart again, that Just as I thought, It can restart respiratory breathing, But It Would NOT help A legally DEAD person who's heart has stopped

https://www.healthtap.com/user_questions/206430-can-i-m-administration-of-narcan-naloxone-in-a-cardiac-arrest-victim-be-helpful

Heres the 1st article that is very clear---

Can i.M. Administration of Narcan (naloxone) in a cardiac arrest victim be helpful?

IM not so much. Narcan (naloxone) can reverse respiratory depression caused by opiate overdose, but if that has lead to a respiratory arrest causing cardiac arrest, the IV form would be much more useful, and only useful then when circulated by chest compressions.

^^^

This 100% confirms my thoughts that CPR or a Defibrillator would be needed...

In the movie, Once her heart stopped and she was dead....

simply hitting her with Narcan would NOT have restarted the heart or circulated the Narcan.

she would have need to be hit with Narcan, Then have CPR done to restart the heart in order for the Narcan to take effect and start normal circulation to counter act the Overdose.

In the movie, They literally just injected a dead body with Narcan...It had no possible was to work or take effect, because the Heart had stopped and could not circulate the Narcan....CPR or a Defibrillator had to be Used to restart the heart before The Narcan could then begin to work....The Narcan Itself wouldnt simply just restart the heart....

Other articles I found are these-

Indications

Narcan is used in an emergency to reverse the effects of an overdose. If the patient is unresponsive or very difficult to wake and quickly returns to sleep, this can be a sign of an overdose. Breathing very slowly or not breathing at all is also a strong indication that an overdose is occurring. The heart rate is often slower than normal.

^there has to be a Heart Beat for Narcan to work!

https://www.healthtap.com/user_questions/184445-will-narcan-naloxone-reverse-opiate-overdose-after-cardiac-arrest-has-occurred

Will Narcan (naloxone) reverse opiate overdose after cardiac arrest has occurred?

In brief: Probably not

Narcan (naloxone) will reverse respiratory arrest. This means that if a person has stopped breathing due to an overdose of Oxycontin or heroin, for example, Narcan (naloxone) can bring back the drive to breathe. If the person doesn't breathe for a long time, though, the heart will stop, which is called cardiac arrest, due to lack of oxygen. Narcan (naloxone) won't fix that.

^^Narcan Wont fix/restart a heart

Wow, I have heard the complete opposite in trainings and in stories.

It seemed weird to me that it could.

However, these are people actually doing it in the moment.

Also, in the studies you mentioned, did they actually kill something and try to bring it back to life?
