Blood transfusions

How does this doctor perform blood transfusions over and over again without knowing the blood type of his recipient?

reply

I was wondering about that too.

Stoker included blood transfusion in his novel, but at the time he didn't know about blood types. , Human blood transfusion was still kind of science fiction. Scientists wouldn't learn how blood types work until the early 20th century. That's when we started transfusing red blood cells in the real world.

This movie is supposed to take place in the universe of the novel though, where they didn't need to make sure blood types were compatible. That's my guess, anyway.

Low chances but still a live saving technique.

Yes, but he did it so casually, back then it was so unsafe, no sane doctor would directly try it. But I have my problems with the stowaway anyway, they should have left this for the boy rescue. Or at least make it clear, that its quite dangerous method and him being happy she really react positively. But still, doubtful any doctor would do that back then so easily.

reply

Maybe he was blood type O negative and he knew it.

That's what I imagined.
