A story about thomas kinkade's life? Are you kidding??

I am an art major and like many people in the art world, cannot stand his work. The people that like his work tend to know nothing about art and just think his art is pretty. they need to teach the public about good art not the pathetic art that he produces. I am a fan of Jared's, even though I am not convinced he is a great actor, but he is good looking guy. He's a guilty pleasure but this movie should not be made since it will just add to the uninformed masses that think kinkade's work is fabulous. Cripes......make another Dali movie before this one. At least he's interesting.

You are not fan of Jared, I am even convinced you're not an art major. He is an amazing actor and you're just a stupid Jensen fan with nothing in the head. Go to criticize your boy... I am tired of this kind of people.

I work at a Christian bookstore and see Kinkade's stuff daily. While he's not my favorite (I don't know if it's all the hype about him, all the stuff he puts out, or just that I am sick of seeing him all over the place), but his art is interesting because in every piece of artwork, he puts in the letter "N" at least once for his wife and other things, like initials of his kids, dates, etc. It's just hidden in his work. That part is pretty neat. Otherwise, I'm not really a fan.

Very well put. I still admire Norman Rockwell's work. I nnow it's not considered great art, but it communicates with me. And Kinkade's art obviously communicates with many people. So be it. Enjoyment of art should come from the heart, not just the intellect.

Hey, hey, it's not really necessary to be great to have a movie made about you. For instance, there's Ed Wood...

Hey, hey, I agree, but its being delayed util next Christmas is a real bummer.

I don't object to Thomas Kinkade doing what he does, or that some people really love it. Everyone wants a little cotton candy every now and then.

That said, I could never buy his overpriced work, nor could I look at it everyday. Yag.

Hey, hey, I'm interested in the Fenway Park painting Kinkade is doing. Whatever, I'm interested in the movie although I'm not that much of an art person.

you do realize that this is a movie
not a slide show of kinkades work. i am not to'
impressed with kinkade
like lot of people are but i can apreciate it
its pretty to look at.
this movie is about the life of thomas kinkade not his work

reply

Hey, hey, I don't think the OP realized that. As for me, I made the comment on his recent art just to keep something going on this board. I imagine it's going to be a pretty dead board until near the time the movie comes out next Christmas season.

Art is subjective. Just becos you don't like his art doesn't mean that it's bad art. And just becos you're an art MAJOR doesn't mean you know everything there is to know about art. All artists' compositions and styles are different and meaningful. Art is created from human activity and is meant to make people react and feel. How a person feels from looking at someone else's work is personal and for people with your opinions (what a shame for an art major to say) to demean someone's work is kind of pathetic, you know? Yes, be critical, but be constructive at the same time. For example, I am not a big fan of Realism paintings, but can appreciate it.

I'm one of those people that don't know anything about art but Kinkade's picture, even though they are "shallow" never fail to bring a little relief to my usual depression during the difficult family time during the holidays. Comfortable homes and people skating and having fun during wntertime *shrug* They're just kind of feel good paintings and I like them. I don't think it's bad to make a movie about him. He's an artist that most people are familiar with. Just because he paints pictures of cozy homes during the holidays doesn't mean this movie shouldn't be given a chance.

reply

Hey, that's very well put, Jacie Turner. Kinkade's paintings deeply touch a lot of people and there's nothing wrong with that. And I'm sure that this movie will touch the same people and maybe even others.

i just don't get what's so damn special about his paintings. they're all the same friggen thing. some cottage near a river in the winter-time. and he's not the "sweet Christian guy" he's made out to be, either. but i'm sure they won't show that side of him in the movie.

i'm also a fan of Jared's, but this is one i won't bother to spend the money on. i'll wait for it to either come on Lifetime or The Hallmark Channel.

reply

Hey, as a fan of the Boston Red Sox, I know for a fact
that there's no "cottage by a river in the winter" in his Fenway Park painting. LOL

And hey, LilIrishChick, aren't you sort of contradicting yourself by proclaiming yourself a Jared fan but having already decided not to support what is liable to be a milestone in his career acting with the likes of Peter O'Toole, Ed Asner, and Marcia Gay Harden?

I have a hilarious story about Thomas Kinkade and meeting him but by total accident with a friend of mine. You know that his stories are just everywhere right? Well, in this one store window near where I was living, was this life-size cut-out of him wearing his stock attire and for months it seemed my friends and I would have business nearby and poke fun at the pose and everything even though yes I knew of his work and all that. The cut out was just odd looking, for anyone to pose that way. Then one day, we park in our usual spot and there we go again laughing at the pose and why its redundant with us then we get off the car to find out, he's in there ... in the pose....the moved the cut out because he was there to meet and greet but he was wearing the same outfit and held himself in that pose! I'm telling you our embarrassment was monumental.

So then to hear that Jared was involved with this project, kudos for that. I'll have to see this for inside laughs and to support Jared. :)
