I don't get why everyone thinks this movie is so good.

Do you have to be a Sherlock Holmes fan? I have been told by many people that it was awesome. I watched it twice and was pretty bored. I don't get the love for it.

What I liked about the movie:

The dialogue is snappy throughout, where Watson and Holmes are contending to be the most sharp-minded.

The mutual but impossible love affair between Holmes and Adler.

Holmes depicted as a man with many talents but also issues, vices and vanity.

A relatively realistic view of what would be technically possible at the time, yet also hinting at innovations (uses of electricity not the least), with some exaggeration of course.

Not falling into the trap of showing magic as anything real. Rather all that seems magic is debunked, at the same time hinting at Crowley-like occultism and secret societies

The scenery, almost completely CGI, but I didn't think about it too much.

There are explosions, but not of the world-destroying kind that you see in most other movies.

Boring? No.

This film has very little to do with the Sherlock Holmes of Arthur Conan Doyle. This is trash for a modern audience.

Um, it's a joke, you know.

I'm not a Sherlock Holmes fan. I watched it for the first time last weekend and quite enjoyed it. It was a good mix of intrigue, action, humor, and period. I wouldn't say I "loved" it, but it was fun. I dunno, maybe pull the stick out of your ass and get over yourself?

Make me a companion of your thoughts.
It is simply lousy. Forget and delete it.

The effects are miserable, action, okay, isn't bad, but anything else is making me tired and drowsy. This is no Sherlock Holmes. It is maybe, maximum, for 5 minutes, all the 5 minutes during which he demonstrates his ability to deduce.
The rest is boring, violent, incredible, unconvincing love scenes and even more unconvincing death scenes.

In a nutshell: waste of time.

No, you donĀ“t have to be a Sherlock Holmes fan in order to like this movie, and actually I would say if you are a fan you will like it even less. I becamme a fan of Holmes when I started to watch the show Sherlock last week and instantly decidet to read a few of the original books (the new show is really close to the books in many ways) and because I wanted to do the whole package I thought I should also watch this movie (it is called Sherlock Holmes, so why not?). But the movie is boring and I felt more like watching Wolverine in Victorian time then a good Sherlock Holmes movie.
