Did you like Jude Law as Watson?

Because I did:)
And I would like to know if Jude Law had met your expectations or not?

Since it was my first time seeing Jude Law, my view was not distorted by "lovey-dovey" fangirl sillyness. He was just a new actor on screen to me without a name.

Then I watched Sherlock Holmes. The rest is history

It is because of Jude that John Watson is my favorite character so I am very leery about watching other versions of SH in case the other actors do not live up to my expectations/veiw of John.

So far, I adore Martin Freeman's version in the Sherlock BBC as well. I know of the Jeremy series but haven't seen it yet.

Not only did he meet them, he exceeded them. When he brashly went up to Lord Blackwood, ready to administer his own brand of justice for murdering and torturing those girls, I was sold. You can like or dislike RDJ's Sherlock, but throw that Nigel Bruce crap out the window. Jude Law WAS the Watson from the short stories, period.

he fits the part pretty well in my opinion.

yes I did. He held his own against Robert Downey Jr in this movie as well as "Game of Shadows". But I haven't really seen him in much as a leading man, I will admit.

I think Law's Watson is one of the best things about these movies. I haven't really liked many Sherlock Holmes adaptations because of Watson. Even if Holmes is perfect in them many a Watson make me think throughout the whole movie about why a genius like Sherlock Holmes would choose to spend his time with such a bumbling moron.

Perfect example that I recently watched would be "The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes". Robert Stephens was a fantastic Holmes but I seriously wanted to bitch slap Watson at times and make him stop screaming, looking surprised and falling over.

I loved him as Watson. One of the highlights in the movie.

Yes, I liked him, but I didn't feel the role really fit him. Jude Law just doesn't look like the type of person who would have Watson's extensive background. Wars, adventures around the empire, I don't get that sort of vibe from him at all. And I didn't really feel Law and Downey fit well together. But I like the cast anyway so wouldn't change it even if I could.

Phisically, yes.I have been reading Sherlock Holmes by Doyle and the Watson portrayed in the book looks like Jude Law, but to difference of his look,I didn't like his personality.

In the movie,Watson seems to me like he can't stand Holmes. In the book,Watson admires Holmes, and he visits him very often to Baker Street. In the movie Watson wants to keep distance with Sherlock, and most time he looks exhausted/bored/ sick of Holmes's behaviour. It is like Sherlock is forcing him to stay with him,and due to the circunstances,Watson accepts because he has not got other options.

In the book, they were a team, and many times Watson was who wanted to get into Holmes's adventures.Watson visited Holmes and Sherlock was into a new case and Watson felt like he wanted to be there too.Other times Sherlock asked Watson if he wanted to help him,and Watson always accepted totally thrilled. In the movies Watson's answer reflects in a bad mood.

In the movies,Holmes cleary forced Watson to get into the adventure. In the first movie to "clean his name" because Watson confirmed Blackwood's death when he was alive.
And in the second movie Watson joins Holmes just because the Moriarty guys wanted to kill him,but Sherlock is always forcing Watson to be by his side, while Watson would rather to go away..
In the movies I don't see that sense of "team" ,"friendship" and "mutual admiration" who both friends feel for each other in the books.
Watson is a real friend in the books, and he cares about Sherlock,he enjoys helping him with the cases, but the Watson played by Law sounds selfish, arrogant, and like he only cares his private life and wants to keep himself away from Holmes.
