Flop? Break Even? Or Profit?

$657,924,295 gross.

Budget, $300,000,000.

Some say you have to always double the budget to factor in marketing (not sure if that's true.)

Anyone know if it made a profit? Maybe it made $100,000,000.

100 million is more than most movies dream of making.

Are you a studio executive? Why would you care about finances? I am a film lover. I judge movies on their merits. Justice League was mediocre.

Most care about the finances these days. It determines whether a sequel will be made.

They say a movie has to make three times its budget at the box office, for the studio to break even. And "JL" had a very high advertising budget, so three times its cost might not have been enough.

So it was probably somewhere between a flop and a disappointment.

Sort of... you double the budget in order to factor in the cut taken by the theaters, and due to lower profit percentage for foreign ticket sales.

Marketing is secondary to this, and basically increases the budget. A movie that's marketed heavily CAN spend as much on budget, so you could roughly double it for that too.

That means a movie would need to make 4x its budget to profit. But with big budget movies, it may be difficult to spend the same amount on marketing. Justice League was pushed pretty hard, so I wouldn't be surprised if they blew 300 million on marketing.

But hey, maybe they only spent 100 million on marketing. No clue.
