Jaden Smith ruined this movie...

When this movie first came out this board was FILLED with complaints about how obnoxious Jaden Smith's character was. Yet, strangely, all of those threads have disappeared. I wonder if someone pressured IMBD to delete anything that was critical of spoiled lil' Smith... hmmm

Yeah. What a crap actor..

I can't really hate on Jaden Smith because he was a little kid, he just said his lines and did what he was told probably.
But I do HATE his character and the character did Ruin the movie completely. the character sucked. It wasn't needed and they should have done the emotional connection another way. Perhaps not a son but a husband or significant other or something. (Perhaps a family member)

His role should have gone to someone older, the whole thing was a big mess. IT sucked, it was terrible. It ruins the movie. It really ruins watching the movie for me.

Every single time I have tried to watch this, I start liking this movie okay. But as soon as the kid shows up I end up hating the movie, completely hating it.

It's not a classic film that's for sure. : )
His dad is trying live through his son, it's an age old thing horribly demonstrated in the Earth film they did. I can't remember what it's called.

Well, the character wasn't very well written and the actor who played it is pretty bad. So the combination of these two factors was a disaster. The kid in this film was just a plot device to add a obstacle to Klaatu's scheme and to bring some emotional substance to Jennifer Connelly's character. Unfortunately, he was just whiny and stupid as most kids are in this kind of films. He deserved to be locked in his room for two weeks. The scene at the cemetery was supposed to be very sad but it turned out ridiculous because Jaden can't act and because the situation was laughable.

As for the his character in the movie, that mistake belongs to the writers. His character is such a horrid little *beep* that EVERYONE would like to smack him in the head. He's an arrogant little *beep* and within 30 mins into the movie we all hope he gets whacked by GORT or Klattu. By this time you don't care what happens to him.

As for Jaden Smith? He's a terrible actor and only gets parts because of who his dad and mum are. Every movie he has been in are terrible, and he's a big part of why that is true. It's sad to see how his Dad continues to feed into his little ego and use his influence to get him roles.

I've read that it's Jaden whining about being an actor that drives this BS. Someone has to tell the kid that he can't act his way out of a wet paper bag. Perhaps he should investigate music since that's where his dad's genes are from and since his dad really can't act either, except to mug for the camera, it's obvious that that's why his son can't act either.
I wish they'd do us all a favor and give up the acting; father and son! Jada isn't too bad, and she's one hell of a lot better to look at too!

The big problem is kind of like "the Emperors new clothes" nobody wants to say anything bad so not to upset his "important" father, so everyone keeps saying what an acting phenom Jaden is and make daddy happy and not get in his bad book.

thought he did a fine job of acting in this movie, and completely sucked in 'after earth'

his scene of mourning his father was very moving.

i dont understand all the hate - probably just a re-direct from will smith and goofy hollywood nepotism etc.

in a world where everyone has an opinion on everything, you get a lot of bad opinions - me

Well, he didn't ruin the movie by himself. It was very flawed already, but I would say he is one of the biggest flaws.

I've calculated your chance of survival, but I don't think you'll like it.

Let's face it, the kid's mother needed to take the belt and beat him purple...
