This movie is an absolute mess.

You cannot have a character imagining things, implying it's all in their head and then having those same things be experienced by other characters and not have a resolution between those two facts. When you create a movie like this you are literally just wasting the audience's time instead of telling a story. Because it's not a story, it's mumbo jumbo.

You really need to GO AWAY. Please.

It's apparent that you hate this movie and think it's a piece of tripe and doesn't make sense and full of horrible acting.

So please, now that you've stated your opinion over and over on almost EVERY thread here, your work is done here. Your presence on a board for a movie you don't even like is not necessary anymore. Quite silly to be devoting your time to slam a movie that you didn't like. Childish too.

I love Black Swan. I truly believe it's a great movie that's thrilling, psychologically and visually moving, with great performances and the CINEMATOGRAPHY is glorious to behold. I'm sorry you don't like Black Swan, but its ridiculous to see all your posts about how much you don't like it. I don't mean to be rude but it's people like you that give certain message boards a sense of negativity and spite, and that leaves a bad taste in my mouth (many others too I'm sure). Your bad attitude is completely unnecessary. Please say something pleasant for a change :) Surely life isnt so bad that you feel you need to spend your spare time trashing movies you hate, right?

OP needs attention. Seems the more they get replies, the more they post. Seriously. If you didn't like a movie, why in the heck are you on its imbd page?

reply

I need to see this movie. I love all the actresses, it sounds pretty trippy.

I remember when I was young and there were only about 4 TV stations to watch. I ran across some Public Television ballet show, might have been Baryshnikov. It looked pretty interesting.
I'm standing there watching it, my Dad walks by, turns it off. I really think my Dad did not want his son to be a fruit. He was that kind of guy. Well, for the most part, I don't think he should feel bad about it. Women are the most Fascinating and Frustrating species on the planet.

And by the way, I completely disagree with you-- movies can most definitely be Mumbo Jumbo, they're only movies! Not real!

I've seen movies that fly off the rails and go off into uncharted territory of unrealistic proportions and I don't get my panties in a wad over it because ITS A MOVIE. Black Swan may be a bit unrealistic and have a few plot holes (I still don't get how Nina changed costumes without realizing she'd injured her abdomen in the fight with Lily) but I can look past all that because it's just a movie. The movie as a whole, and the end and how we get there is all that matters.

That's how I feel about it. I didn't like it.

I don't like films that leave you guessing most of the time if it's real or not. Like Inception, the love-fest for that film is nuts. The concept was great, until the end when the top starts to wobble and the film ends....well WTF, we will never know if it's real or not. ARGH.

That's how I was with Inception too, haha. To this day, i'm still confused about the end -_-

Because that doesn't matter. That wasn't the point of the movie. That wasn't even the point of Leo's character arc.

Let's be bad guys.

In which cases did other characters experience her imaginations?

reply

I guess the skin thing lol.

I guess the skin thing lol.

I guess I always interpreted that as part real, part imagination. The way I see it she truly has a nervous habit of scratching herself with her fingernails in her sleep and her mother notices this and mentions it several times. However the Natalie Portman character imagines/hallucinates this to be something more than just a scratch. She imagines it to be swan wings and swan skin starting to emerge (exactly like how she imagines and sees other weird stuff through the film).

So the way I see it everything that's actually her hallucinating/imagining things is only seen by herself.

reply

Agreed.

Poorly Lived and Poorly Died, Poorly Buried and No One Cried

reply

I think that was one of a few subtle hints that her mother is also a hallucination.

reply

Soooo... The Shining is just crap too?? By your logic anyway

reply

Agreed. I like what Aronofsky did visually, but the movie makes zero sense.

That didn't happen in the film.

Hail to the king, baby.

Actually everything to the last detail made sense. You not liking it is fine, but you don't need false statements to justify your opinion - it is your opinion no matter what..

The movie made a lot of sense to me!

I watched another movie about the ballet world. It was from 1991 entitled "Dying To Dance". Some of the young girls felt so much pressure to succeed that they were starving themselves. One girl died from anorexia and exhaustion. Her mom felt guilt from pushing her so hard, I think she was an ex ballerina herself. One of the guy directors of the company was a thoughtless jackass. Both movies do show how cutthroat and heartless that world can be! Although I do think ballet is a beautiful art regardless!
