Things that don't add up about the film

* Starting with being kicked out of school for being pregnant. She was so fat it was impossible to tell that she was pregnant at all. In reality the school would not have known for a very long time.

* Why was she ''one of the best math students'' but still stuck in seventh grade at 16? that makes no sense. She mentioned being an A-B student. So why were they holding her back?

* Why did she have to talk to the Mariah Carey character about her life to get a welfare cheque? I have never heard of a set up like that. What I looked into about Reagan era welfare laws was that this type of thing was not the case. Women in need still got help regardless. The Reagan administration did not cut welfare contrary to belief. Al the cuts and austerity came with Clinton in the 1990's.

* Precious still had the option of abortion. Why didn't she take that?

* Precious could have gotten a minimum wage job? why didn't she do that?

even if she's good at math, she could be severely dyslexic.

They still did welfare intake before 1996. And the social worker probably would have needed to report even then if precious was in an unsafe family situation.

Just bc you have the option of abortion doesn't mean she knows how to obtain it. Again, if she's severely dyslexic, she may not know how to arrange for the trip etc. This was also pre-internet so people had to do more research.

What if she had looked re a job and they required a certain level of academic skill in order to get the wages she wanted/needed.
