Especially all those people who work for Gus in the lab, keeping an eye on Walt and stuff such as that. I thought working as a criminal was supposed to be cool but they seem so angry and unhappy. Former Officer Mike is the same.
Looks like crime really doesn't pay?
A pretty common message in crime fiction, and one sadly ignored. In fact, it's repeated in true crime stories as well, and basically, if you do nasty things with nasty people, it doesn't turn out well.
(SPOILERS)
Consider Walt himself. Does he really get what he wants? He sets out to leave a legacy and to save his family. He tears his family apart, along with his soul, scraping together enough of it back at the end to right a few of his wrongs, but not enough to mend the damage. What did he gain?
