Good,Bad,Ugly V.S. Good,Bad,Weird

No doubt the film is a remake of The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly (GBU). As a big fan for Leone's spaghetti westerns, I would like to hear your comparison between the two movies.

My ratings:

Plot: GBU-10,GBW-8.5
Both have GREAT stories, catches your eyes from the first minute to the last, I mean the main story. But GBU has more interesting episodes, or side stories, probably because it's longer. And, the ending of GBU is insurmountable.

Performance: GBU-10, GBW-9
I do love the Ugly and the Weird in both movies, fantastic! The Bads are both impressive. But the Eastwood's Good is definitely much better.

Music: GBU-10 GBW-7
I cannot even find a word to praise Morricone's score in GBU. But GBW offers no impressive music at all. I was waiting for a tune similar to The Esctasy for Gold, when the weird run towards the treasure, but nothing was heard at all, in almost 3 minutes!

Lines: GBU-10 GBW-7.5
GBW doesn't have sth similar interesting dialogues like "there are two kinds of people in the world, my friend, ......"

Action&Humor: GBU-9 GBW-9 (just personal feeling)

As remake is a difficult job, I think GBW is a very successful one! Love them both!

GBU easily beats this movie especially in the character department.

The two Goods - Clint Eastwood hand down beats the Korean version the he was cool he just didn't have enough lines and kept smiling... taking away from his badassness.

The Two Bad - I felt the Korean version was lame and kind of a tool where the original was cruel and viscious he didn't torture unless it brought him info otherwise you weren't worth his time and he killed you.

The Two Weird - I like both actually do a great job. I do hate at the end how The Korean version had a past life that made him bad ass which was kind of lame. He showed almost no physician fighting ability let were suppose to believe he was able to beat the Bad in a one on one fight!?

The ending gun fight in the GBW also felt really forced.

i think they're really different. But still:

Plot: GBU-9, GBW-8.
I don't understand people complaining about GBW's plot. Three guys want to find a treasure and some other guys want the map. It's simple. And, since most people, annoyingly, don't like subtitles, a simple plot is just as good, especially in an action - comedy.

Performance: GBU-8, GBW-8
I love all three protagonists in both movie. My issue with GBU is the bad never seemed all that bad. Whereas the bad in GBW is dark and cruel. I know that wouldn't work as well in GBU's context, but I just wanted there to be more grit in GBU's bad. The Good in both is badass. I'm not going to hail Clint as better because he's a legend. GBW's the good in that chase scene at the end kicks ass. Both the bad and weird are awesome.

Music: GBU-10, GBW-8
I personally really like GBW's score. I think the issue some people have is they want it to be like GBU's and it's not. I think it's a great score. But obviously, GBU's score is a master piece. It's Iconinc. Everyone knows it.

Lines: GBU-9, GBW-9
I think there's brilliant moments in both, but equally both lack in some places.

Action and humour: GBU-8, GBW-10
There are some brilliant moments in GBU but it's certainly not as funny. Tuco is brilliant and Blondie has his moments but compared to anything the weird says. Action wise, again, I thing GBW has more action. The chase, the ghost market fight, the train shoot out. These are three of my favourite action sequences and I just don't thing GBU has anything as action packed. Though the final shootout is A LOT better in GBU.

Both brilliant movies but the final score: GBU 44/50 GBW 43/50

Im a huge Leone fan but unlike most I prefer A Few Dollars More. I loved this Korean version of The Good the Bad and the Ugly, in no small part due to being a huge fan of Kim Jee-Woon. He does pay homage to many great filmmakers in this film and it is great but the original is actually a very different film and in a class of its own. Both are great but the original is a classic and has been parodied here for that reason I feel.

The Good,The Bad And The Weird (GBW) is obviously a homage to the Western classic,The Good,The Bad And The Ugly (GBU).Both movies are great and different but for comparison's sake:

Plot: GBU-10, GBW-8.
Both movies have excellent plot.I can say that GBW also has an interesting despite of some people complaining about it.But still, the viewer would definitely be more absorbed with how Blondie,Angel Eyes and Tuco are journey of finding the treasure and Blondie and Tuco's alliance of making money through off the latter's bounty. Also, more interesting things happen in GBU since it is longer compared to GBW.

Performance: GBU-8, GBW-10
The protaganists of both movies are outstanding. The Good in GBU is superior to that in GBW BUT I definitely loved the Bad and the Weird in GBW. Park Chang-yi is definitely darker, sadistic and more cruel than Angel Eyes while Yoon Tae-goo is a lot funnier and humorous as compared to Tuco.

Music: GBU-10, GBW-8
No question that GBU's score is a masterpiece but the GBW does not fall far behind.

Lines: GBU-9, GBW-9
Both movies have excellent and memorable lines.

From GBU:
Blondie: You see, in this world there's two kinds of people, my friend: Those with loaded guns and those who dig. You dig.

From GBW:
Man-gil: The bounty on your head is 300 won.
Yoon Tae-goo: What? I'm only worth a piano?
Man-gil: A used one at that.

Action and humor: GBU-8, GBW-10
Obviously, the GBW have better action scenes and more funny moments.

Both brilliant movies in their own ways with the final score: GBU 45/50 GBW 45/50. Its a tie!!!!

Bringing this old argument up because I just saw 'The Good, The Bad, and The Weird' again for the third time whereas I haven't seen 'The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly' in maybe twenty years now.

Apples and Oranges people.

I wouldn't even call GBW a remake at all other than homage to the film and a few other westerns. It's a completely different movie in tone, setting, time, culture, language, etc.

You want to see a "bad remake?" Go see Spike Lee's remake of Park Chan-wook's 'Oldboy.'

This was a fun film, but on no level does it match up to the film from which it has drawn inspiration.

I don't think this is a remake, more like an homage so the entire trilogy since it references certain moments from all three films, the metal chest plate, the moment where the big gangs all pursue the protagonists but they manage to turn on each other, the hat shooting scene, bounties, right down to the kick in the balls plot twist in which the guys are absolutely clueless as to what the treasure was all about, and how different kinds of people perceive wealth. It's poignant and potent, the likes of Tarantino can only wish they knew how to make movies like this
