How is this movie not at 5.0 or lower?

This board might have the most hate I've ever seen on imdb, so how is the user score still so high at 7.7? I gave The Hurt Locker a 10/10, but from the look of this board I can't imagine a lot of other people did.

The internet is hugely popular amongst people who like to tell others that a thing they liked is terrible, so generally any acclaimed movie has loads of people on the boards saying just that. People who liked it usually just tell their friends and move on.

Thank you cian_jm, you are a voice of clear reason (as well as a couple of other posters speaking to this). I naively came onto the IMDB boards to hear from folks who love movies and can't stop talking about them.

The depth of venom and hatred, the high posters get from expressing it making it clear they are addicts of that feeling, was a slap in the face. Do these people actually surround me in real life? Do I know them?

I truly have a lower opinion of people in general after talking to different posters over just a few months. But then there are jewels, some know a lot and express it very precisely and some are simpler but heartfelt. Both make me look at movies and performance with more questions than I began with.

You might know them, it's hard to tell really because I doubt many of these people talk this way in real life. You wouldn't have many friends if you just went around telling them that things they think are great are, in fact, awful. You get over it because at the end of the day, this isn't some esteemed and knowledgeable person putting down whatever it is you like, it's just some knob with a computer and an opinion that doesn't actually matter.

I don't know for me the movie was trash from the first 5 minutes till the ending. As a man who actually deployed the idea of a single american truck on it's own is retarded. They don't drive out with anything less than 20 vehicles with helicopter support or at least 2 warthog jets giving them fly by protection waiting on call.

The man with the phone in the first scene was just dumb. Americans see a man with a phone when they have visual on an IED and don't open fire?????? As a man who deployed I can easily say Americans will shot at the SLIGHTEST threat, and that has been proved before.

The whole movie tries to take this realistic view on modern military, but comes out as this anti-war *beep* abomination.

It played out as facts, but the move was full of so much *beep* I could not take it. If you want my advice and this kind of real genre amuses you. Skip this crap and watch Generation Kill.

Hurt Locker was terrible. Jeremy Renner disobeyed a direct order from his commanding officer and nothing happened to him. He would have been discharged or suspended. The British SAS (their special forces) who specialize in combat can't take out terrorists in a sniper duel, but 3 bomb disarmers who only have basic combat training can. How about 3 bomb disarmers wandering around the desert without a squad or platoon. In real life bomb disarmers always have people protecting them. *beep* garbage movie. Talk to any soldier who worked in Iraq and they will point out 1000 things wrong with this movie. It's not the worst movie ever, but this movie winning best picture was an absolute joke.

Agree that this film is vastly over-rated.
The initial scene with Guy Pierce was good then it was just a total let down.
However if I can just correct you re the "SAS team"? They are supposed to be PMC's not SAS.
But how anyone could have hit anything in this film is a mystery as none of the weapon sights have their respective reticles or red-dots!
In short, bad writing, preposterous behaviour, poor research and Jeremy bloody Renner!
Just an over-rated film that got an oscar for political reasons.

I gave it a 6. Great cinematography, solid performances, and I did like the themes. However I found the film to be way to slow for a story that was ultimately underwhelming. I like what they were trying to do but I don't like how they did it. Still glad the Academy went with this over Avatar, though those were my two least favorite films nominated that year.

This is a great movie, and doesn't deserve all the hate it gets

it should be around 8/10

It took me 5 years to get around to seeing this film and I wished I had waited longer. What a load of unmitigated rubbish. A miniscule plot connecting a collection of over the top anecdotes.

Best picture of the year? That's just wrong!

It is certainly being bashed by those who served in the army. I haven't, so maybe that is why I love it.

The tagline is "war is a drug", and that is what the movie is about.
