How is this movie not at 5.0 or lower?

This board might have the most hate I've ever seen on imdb, so how is the user score still so high at 7.7? I gave The Hurt Locker a 10/10, but from the look of this board I can't imagine a lot of other people did.

I'm like others here who only watched the whole film out of a hope that some kind of story - ANY kind of story - might actually happen. There's clearly a certain anti war agenda behind the whole awards thing but that's only to be expected in todays "Politically Correct" world - for what it's worth tho I'll throw in here that anyone who thinks ANY war film EVER made is or has been anything other than anti war is a BOZO!!.

With this film I don't think KB was doing anything special in that respect - rather she's simply turned up at a kegger with a pickup full of beer - the quality wasn't important - only that it was beer and a lot of it.

In KB's defence I really think this film was originally meant to be something else - ie. a very specific story of a duel of sorts between James and an enemy bomb expert - but for some reason that went out the window and they ended up throwing together what they had into an aimless cliche which at best is only superficially entertaining (ironically enough prolly mostly to war crazy nuts) and at worst - if you're foolish enough to actually try and invest in it - confusing and frustrating. All that aside, KB's work - when you look at the scenes and sequences separately - is very good - all she needs to do is learn how to assemble such work into a coherent story and we'll have it all (she might have achieved that in Zero Dark Thirty from what I'm seeing? ). In short as a piece of film making The Hurt Locker DOESN'T deserve to be any higher than 5 - it's just a sobering example of how giving the mob a lot of what they want - regardless of quality - can work out really well.

If people want to be good little Pol Correct robots and react with all the usual platitudes to cliched crap then more power to em I guess, but it's really just sad.

Maybe one day KB will revisit this and make the film she originally intended to - I'd personally really like that.

^^Me too, I agree.

I'm confused.

the third (and first post to oppose the OP) said "and we all know why"

I don't know why. I loved the movie.

I liked the film a lot too. I can understand some that didn't like it but I couldn't say it was terrible or forgettable, for those that thought it was, to each their own, I thought it was great.

I actually think the movie is very underated. Probably should be above an 8. I rated it a ten because its an intense movie that sucks you into it. The movie has great performances, cinematography and direction. It also brings a certain amount of tension that is usually absent in most movies.
This film is in no way boring, but i can see people who have short attention spans might see it that way.

They're just trolls. This film was amazing.

Fear not the darkness, but welcome its embrace.

"TheRapDude" has spoken. I have a very clear idea of what kind of human-beings that like these kind of movies, someone with your name is appropriate. They're the "Amurica Fck Yeah" movement.

Its just another war movie with a modern twist and setting, plus a shaky camera of course. (That is very important in todays movies.) War movies are never boring, per se, but its like another police or hospital TV drama. Its been done, nothing special about it. Comparing a movie like this to District 9 which is evolutionary in its genre, which has it all; a great story, plot, character development, directing, picture, soundtrack - everything. It is like comparing a classical piece of art to a grad students photo art. It isn't imaginative nor original, no depth and definitely no sense of greatness when you've watched it. You might get a small adrenaline rush. But the point is, you can get that from any action movie out there, it isn't anything special.
I'm not really a big fan of Avatar either, it may be a huge production and deserves the credit for it, but to me its far too long and far too cliché for my taste.
Movies like these deserves a lot more credit;

District 9
Cloud Atlas
The Fountain
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Memento
The Machinist
Shutter Island
Donnie Darko
Seven
The Big Lebowski
Ninth Gate
Rashômon
Grave of the Fireflies
Monsters
Apocalypto
Lost In Translation
Phonebooth
X-men: First Class
Zombieland
The Man From Earth
Kiss kiss, Bang bang
Super 8
Another Earth
Cashback
The Departed
Amélie
And I can go on and on.. There are hundreds of movies out there far better than this one and deserves a lot more than what this one achieved.

I'm not gonna bother arguing about a movie I don't particularly like though, but I'd like to give you the advice to watch more movies, not just the action-based movies, even if the theme is "To show the horrors of wars". (You shouldn't need to watch a war movie to know the horrors of war. It should be enough to read the history books, and you Americans should have plenty of war to read about.) Thank you. :)

Should be at 6.2
Not too artful. Not too entertaining. Not too anatomically correct.

I don't understand all the hate either. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time watching it, and I absolutely loved the movie.

To each his own I guess.

reply

Because it's just loud vocal morons who hate it. It happens on every board of a art house type film really.
