Interpretation (SPOILERS)

The silent One-Eye is the incarnation of Odin. He is invincible and holds the power to see the future. He disdains the Christian Vikings who've usurped his influence over his people. He tests many in battle to see if they're worthy, but finds none. Nevertheless, he sullenly sees his people off to their new (holy) land, America, where Scandinavians were the third most numerous immigrants. The Boy is a type of Thor, Odin's son (note his hammer necklace), who will sort of replace him in America once the grim god ironically sacrifices himself à la Jesus Christ.

(Yes, I realize there's another thread on this topic, but I thought the main ideas could be conveyed more succinctly with my spin on them).

Thanks, Sho.

Hmm, but the Vikings didn't survive in The Americas. They had few settlements then vanished (killed or returned) and later returned with the Atlantic trade routes. And when they returned they were all Christians.

As I said, Odin "disdains the Christian Vikings who've usurped his influence over his people. He tests many in battle to see if they're worthy, but finds none." In other words, these people were no longer really Vikings as that era was passing away along with belief in the grim one-eyed god, Thor, etc. The Vikings were now -- more generically -- Nordic peoples with some being Scandinavians and most converting to Christianity in the centuries to come. Speaking of which, Odin saw beyond the initial explorations of his former people and their eventual mass settlement in the new world, "where Scandinavians were the third most numerous immigrants" and the Asa faith was no longer relevant.
