Possibly the worst film I've ever seen

And I'm not the type to EVER jump on IMDB and rant and rave like this.

I don't mean to offend anyone, but... I made it through about 30 minutes before I had to turn it off.

This is some of the worst, most wooden acting I've ever seen. The dialogue is just abysmal! It seems like two hours of people stumbling around and delivering their lines with the skill and depth of a high school drama student.

And it wasn't just the delivery that was awful - the writing itself was terrible.

Am I missing something here? I think I've got pretty good taste in films, and I've heard that the novel this movie's based on is real high quality.

How did you guys manage to sit through this?

I have to agree that this movie was pretty terrible. I voted it a 2 and I'm usually pretty open-minded. I was actually getting angry watching it because it was so bad lol

i actually went back and changed my 2 to a 1. so many stupid choices. just, no. who would read this and say, yes, i either want to star in or make this. i cannot describe my hatred of this movie. ugh. i felt like i was watching one of those teen horror flicks where you are always yelling at them because of all the stupid choices. and the whole rape scene pissed me the eff off.

reply

I just didn't get the point and overall direction of the film, lost interest and switched off

i dont know if this is the worst movie ever. and i did watch all of it. but i didnt like it. people treating each other poorly when chaos hits, isnt exactly an original idea. its been done before in many movies, and i feel more effectively so. there were 2 scenes in the movie that i did really enjoy. it had major unanswered questions that made me dislike it overall though. i dont think a movie has to be boring and symbolic to be "intelligent" like many people that claimed they liked it and thought it was "intelligent".

*spoilers*

Yeah the only things I remember I really didn't like were the fact that the main chick is the only one who could see and she still let those dudes do whatever they wanted for way too long. And then all of a sudden everyone's site comes back at the end. What the hell is that?

2 maybe 3 days, in the course of weeks, how is that "too long" for NORMAL peaceful living people to turn to violence??????? One needs to first assess a situation and then make a plan of action that will have the least negative repercussions. Any normal sain person in this situation will not turn instantly to violence!!

***So I've seen 4 movies/wk in theatre for a 1/4 century, call me crazy?**

reply

Absolutely, I made it to 42:00 minutes. I really tried to find some angle to the film but it is really just lackluster. It's like an essay written entirely in passive voice with no punchline. Pretty horrible film, actually, and I am surprised it has a score above a 4/10. I gave it a 3 since it's pretty rare that I cannot finish a film.

Wow - amazing how many people cannot understand social allegory on this board. Your loss, I guess.

reply

Social allegory or not. Crap is crap.

I watched the whole thing and I too think it's one of the worse movies I've seen. I had to laugh at the comparison to 2012 because that one did top my list until I saw this one. I only kept watching because I was hoping something good would come out of it with all the promising talent in the movie, didn't happen sadly.

Nobody's gonna end up reading this, but I thought I'd throw in my two cents as well, concerning the abysmal atrocity that is Blindness.

By far one of the hardest movies for me to sit through, and I am generally very patient and give each and every movie I watch a chance from the opening to ending credits.

Well, I managed to fidget my way through this one, but it wasn't easy. Kept having to take breaks to avoid going insane.

Awful acting, no emotion, no character development. I only felt sorry for the characters because of the situation they were in (the women), not because I had developed an emotional connection with them.

The premise sounded very interesting when I heard of this, but it quickly turned into a concentration-camp type setting, with the twist that they were all blind. The way this degraded into some cliche struggle for life, etc. was almost enough for me to quit halfway through.

Abomination.

And the ending? The *beep*?

"Oh, well, we're all blind and whatnot. Well *beep* What ever are we going to do?"

*stumble around*

"Oh hey, I can see again!"

"Hey, me too!"

"Well, isn't that nice."

"It is, isn't it."

"Quite."

reply

haha agreed. i too was waiting for it to get better. i remember seeing the previews and wanting to see it. no pun intended. but total let down.

reply

Me too. I thought the concept of the movie was good, but everything else about it was bad. I forced myself to sit through the whole thing just in case it got better, but alas, I was disappointed. I was actually mad at myself for having PAID to see it. Definitely one of the worst I've ever seen.

How the heck can you say that is the worst film you've ever seen if you haven't even seen it till the end?

The part where you say that you have got "pretty good taste in films" is just simply ridiculous cause everyone's taste is different. Your taste in films is not better or worst than mine or everyone else, it's yours. If you didin't like the film it is your opionion but you don't have the right to ask how we "manage to sit through this" cause there are people who actually like this and who are you to say something like that. I bet you would love if someone said that your favorite movie was "terrible" and had the "depth of a high school drama student".

I think it is a brilliant movie based on a brilliant high quality novel.
