I LOVED IT, too many haters here! *spoilers*

I really enjoyed this movie. Everything in it was made with feeling and thought... I think a main reason that people dislike it is because the movie shows people taking RESPONSIBILITY. At the very end of the movie, Stanton knows full well that he might be a traitor. He also knows that regardless of the outcome, the choice being made isn't the right one. He goes against the flow, and goes against what is popular and accepted, and he chooses to protect the innocent even if it costs him everything. He could have just been the good soldier, and kept on doing what his leaders told him to, and it would have succeeded. However, he took PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY for the actions he was a part of, and he did what he had to. He didn't know what the solution was, he only knew that the one in progress was NOT the right solution. Yes, it could have doomed the human race to extinction, but survival at the cost of the bloodshed of so many innocents was unjustifiable to him.

He takes RESPONSIBILITY. Many people like to sit back and complain about what their leaders are doing, absolving themselves from all feelings of responsility and placing the guilt solely on the shoulders of those in charge... this movie reminds everyone that it is a PERSONAL choice to follow laws or orders, making the person being led to do something they KNOW is wrong just as responsible as their villainous leaders because they aren't doing anything to stand against it.

It's possible the story was too serious and cerebral for your average movie-goer, and considering 75% of the population is pretty damned stupid with a short attention span, I'm not surprised.
