Horrible.. my son fell sleep in the middle of the movie

I saw it yesterday (may 14th) in a advanced screening in Guatemala but let me say that is a horrible movie bur with pristine 3D effects.. The story has been told hundred times in other movies.. Ferngully for example.. the heroes and heroines have no charm.. the villain is very silly... I saw it with my little son (3 years old) and he fell sleep about an hour in the movie.. He gets more entertaining with the trailers of "Turbo" and "Monster University"...
In the other hand, the 3D was an achievement. Sorry but "Epic" will be a forgettable summer movie...

As a father of two kids myself I have not taken and would not take a 3-year old to the movies. I believe that's still not a good age to take someone to a dark (i.e. low-light) movie theater. I saw Epic yesterday (with my older kid) and there were so many 2-3 year-old kids making so much noise, crying and screaming at the "dark" scenes.

It pisses me off that I paid a ticket to watch a movie in relative silence and then have my experience ruined by constant toddler/kid noise. If you wanted to have kids, stay home, take care of them, wait for the DVDs and watch them home, or better yet, pay a nanny to watch out for them--but don't ruin the movie for everyone else.

As for the movie, my kid loved it and couldn't stop talking about it after it was over...and 3-year olds fall asleep A LOT! It has nothing to do with the movie being good or bad.

The film is hardly suitable for a 3-year-old. The visuals, the effects, the action sequences and mostly the storyline are too complex for a small brain to even begin to fathom. No wonder your little one had fallen asleep. I would say the youngest age for this sort of experience should be at least 6. My 7-year-old daughter thoroughly enjoyed it. She could follow plot and most importantly understood the message of the story.
As to the trailers of "Turbo" and "Monster University" they seemed a bit too coarse and peppered with rude language to be suitable for any child below 10! That is if you're wary of exposing your offspring to precocious stuff too early on!

Who the hell brings a three year old to the theater????? Are you insane or what?

And if your son falls asleep seeing those two movies, will you claim them to be terrible just because of that? Kids fall asleep pretty easy at young ages, even if they are entertained. That's why planning times around naps is a preferred thing to do. My three year old daughters don't go to movies often, as there's not many movies I'd take three year old kids to, but when they do I always plan it around their naps. If they don't sleep as well and I know they might not behave as good as normal, we don't go. However, they didn't fall asleep during this. That doesn't solely make it a good movie just because they didn't fall asleep.

The kids in the theater when I've seen it seemed to really like it.

WOW! you are such a genius! If only I knew the magic formula for a movie's watchability is bases solely on the sleeping habits of a 3 yr old I would've made a fortune... and to think Siskel/Ebert spent their entire lives trying to be a critic when they could've used a young child to do their work.

The "who takes a three year old to the movies?" coupled with paragraphs of reasons and slaps on the wrist because "damn it the movie was good btw" is getting old. Understood. No need for that many recycling bins.

Anyway, fresh POV. Wouldn't take the kiddies to the theatre, [which is incredibly hard for most kids --- and adults -- to sleep through with all that noise IMO, so this point almost feels impossible to make if the theatre is showing a high-energy film; just almost], but at the daycare we tend to put on movies for a reason. A lot of kids will stay engaged, if the film is engaging. Some will fall asleep because they're young, and too tuckered out to stay up. Some will fall asleep because they just can't pay attention. Others will fall asleep because the movie was boring, and if they wake up while the movie is still playing, they will verbally confirm as much.

At the end of the day the parent knows her son more than strangers on an IMDB thread, and if that was the case, then it was just the case. *shrug* Other kids enjoyed the movie, I'm sure. But it's clearly been a mixed audience. I haven't seen the film yet, and will wait for the DVD.

^ My thoughts exactly Anna!

Oh, by the way noobs, I was always allowed to go to theater ever since I was 3, and guess what? I turned out okay! So there, get over it! It's not the kid's fault that the movie was boring.
