The one you didn't like.....

I like several wes anderson movies but I've noticed while looking at forums that there is always one wes anderson movie his fans don't like. Personally, i didn't like the royal tenenbaums very much. The life aquatic was my favorite with bottle rocket as a close second. I cant give a reason for why i didn't like it as much, i was just curious if anyone else felt that way about another anderson film.

So whats yours?

Agreed. I'm not a big fan of 60's-70's era pop culture all in our faces about it.

It's taken a long while to even grow an appreciation for RT, but even now I don't have a connection to any of the characters. Too many characters without emotional attachment doesn't fly sorry.

Bottle Rocket. I don't actively dislike it, but...it's the only one where I feel absolutely nothing for any of the characters other than a dislike of Dignan and irritation at his doormat friends. Their adventures leave me disinterested outside the amusing final heist.

Currently I'm rewatching all of his features, and curiously enough Darjeeling Limited was harder to engage with when seen amidst the rest of his films...curious because on its own I find it very compelling. Perhaps because it's less whimsical than my faves: Life Aquatic, Royal Tenenbaums, and Fantastic Mister Fox.

When i watched Darjeeling it had been a while since I had seen any of the other movies. I didn't notice that it was harder to engage. Thats very interesting. I think i'll follow you're lead and rewatch all of them them. Thank you for pointing that out. Just out of curiosity simian, which is your favorite? If you had to choose.

Doubtless you'll have some other reaction, it's just a personal one!

Favorite? Difficult...I'm leaning toward Life Aquatic because its such a unique film, and I love its humor and quirkiness, and its fragile sense of humanity. Tenenbaums is running a close second now that its grown on me, it might be the better film but not as fun or imaginative.

Finished off last night with Moonrise Kingdom, a second viewing, and it's making its way toward a top position as well. Fantastic Mr. Fox is up there somewhere as pure comedy.

Do try an Anderson-fest, it's time well spent!

I may have the same. I mean life aquatic was my favorite and I didnt like moonrise that much until the second time I saw it. I think I should watch royal tenenbaums again since so many people are praising it. Thanks for your advice though simian.

Every film is unique.

I don't have any I don't like. I own them all on dvd and enjoy watching them.

This is my least favorite, so far.... I'm pretty sure i've seen all of them... This one just seemed a tad overly pretentious (even for a Wes film). Usually, that pretension is balanced out with other worthwhile components, and while this film did capture some interesting things about life and death and family dynamics, it wasn't enough. still worthwhile, and beautifully composed, as always.

reply

Mine is The Royal Tenenbaums too.

I give my respect to those who have earned it; to everyone else, I'm civil.

reply

I like Darjeeling Limited very much, and Moonrise Kingdom was wonderful.

I didn't take to Royal Tennenbaums, and only liked parts of Life Aquatic.

But I think then, I wasn't expecting how Wes Anderson movies are. I may give them another chance.

reply

I don't have one I don't like. In fact, when I'm watching a Wes Anderson film, the one I'm watching feels like my favorite.

reply

That's a beautiful way to put it.

Can't stop the signal.

reply

Bottle Rocket is the one I don't really like for me.

I don't hate it by any means, but it's the only one I don't own a copy of...I just don't feel like he found his voice as a filmmaker quite yet.
