The strength of QOS is in its story

someday i am gonna do a proper analysis of QOS. it will be quite long and take a lot of time, so not today because i am busy. but...

yes i get some of the criticisms you guys have. i get it. the bourne gripes. and greene's lameness. etc etc. dude, i get it. but imo it's never good to throw the baby out with the bath water.

there are many cool elements/moments in this film.

a lot of issues people may have with ANY film, and this goes for every human, lie in the expectations one has for said film. this goes for me, for you, for everyone.

so imo some QOS complaints are of that nature; many expected another casino royale.

yes i agree some of the shakicam was overdone. yes i agree the bourne wannabe tags are valid. yes dominic was weak, somewhat; but for me not a deal breaker.

IMHO even though these and other complaints are real, it amounts to splitting a hair. (baby/bathwater again)

if we put this movie on an old fashioned scale, these 'flaws' would be far outweighed by all the GOOD things in it. and these good things are really good. ENOUGH TO GET MY ATTENTION, and i am not that easily satisfied. well, maybe i am, lol, because my one lone rule is 'does it hold my attention?'

but anywho, let's continue...

any artwork lives or dies based on its measure according to an invisible/intangible scale, one we could call 'pathos'.

or you could rename that as 'heart'. screenwriters may call it 'theme'.

...it's the intangible/invisible 'nether element' present in very appealing works of art. something you can't quite put your finger on, but you know it's there.

IMO quantum of solace has this element, in various places in the film. like i said someday i will do a longer, proper expo on this film but not today. but for now, here are some bits:

1---i like how it picks up literally seconds after the CR story ends. basically a part B to the first film. cool.

2---007's anger, seething deep burn, can be felt from the first scene. and craig carried this tone well throughout the film. it was always there. pain makes for good characterization, and this one nailed it. (btw something that was missing in CR)

3---olga's storyline is very heartfelt. not to mention she is fucking gorgeous and one of the hottest bond girls ever. 5,000% jones inducing...

4---there was a sense of disconnect with james, a vibe of abandonment which i liked. love that vibe of going rogue when they cut off his cards and he

5---shows up at mathis' villa. that scene was cool and had loads of pathos. the forgiveness element and their rebonding. then that deep conversation on the plane ride in the dark, and ultimately mathis' death and the existential/irony of tossing his best friend in a dumpster.

6---the plot itself was strong IMO, and i think was timely for then and still applies ( the coming water crisis across the world)

7---the new alliance with felix was cool

8---the music was good

9---love the closing 'bookend' scene. as a friend of mine used to point out, it was a cool tying off of the CR story, and vesper.

10---but mainly like i said the strength is in the story, the characterization; bond and his innards, motivations.

like i said i am typing this on the fly because i gotta go check on my bitches (a pimp's work is never done) but later i will add much more, or do a separate much longer post.

but for now my gist is, most of you haters are nitpicking QOS with all these petty complaints. if you actually give it a chance you may see some things you missed, and find some new appreciation for this film. if you insist on being hardheaded then we agree to disagree.

cheers.

QOS and the Last one are the only 2 in the franchise that i haven't seen the latter for obvious reasons but the first basically because it often comes out bottom 2 in any ranking list.

To be honest i am hard to please because i'm a pure Connery man Craig doesn't do it for me. But i have always been curious about QOS and in general i often go against the crown in my tastes so i will give this one a shot, you won me over.
