Dame Helen Mirren is brilliant in this.

She was my favourite part of the film, and I felt like I mostly only cared for her character. I thought she was great.

Thoughts?

Absolutely! She deserved all the credit she got for this role. Absolutely outstanding.

Yes, she really conveyed a deep love between herself and Tolstoy. There was a bit of a comedic edge at times as well.

reply

Agreed. I decided to watch it because she was in it and watched it all the way through because of her. Wonderful. I found her part funny as well at times, not sure if it was supposed to be but it made me laugh anyway. Great actress, as always.

Let's just say she deserved the Oscar over Bullock

I own the Jelena Jankovic board

She was magnificent. She has such a wide range.

Yes, I loved her performance here, not to downplay the work of Christopher Plummer. But she was the real star, when she was off screen the movie suffered and became less magnificent.

As always, Helen Mirren was brilliant. She brought so much to the film. . .drama, heartbreak, comedy, curiosity and more. Loved it!

reply

She was excellent, her histrionics always controlled and never over the top. Such a great actress.

A shame the film as a whole was such a ponderous bore.
