Adam Sandler just killed his career.

I saw this because I was still hoping for a quirky comedy that Sandler used to give in the 90s/early 2000s (despite the bad trailer). Well this movie was pure garbage. I would just like to know WHAT THE HELL happened? I want to see more of Happy Gilmore/Waterboy/Deeds...not this Happy Madison related stuff.

I feel that Sandler has axed his career. Thoughts on his recent works?

seems odd to think that someone who has made a career of making shytty movies will destroy said career by making another one. my guess is people are so desperate for a good laugh especially in times like these that they would take any chance to get one even when the hope for it is rather slim. that's why "comedies" like Mall Cop or J&J will always get an audience.

just wondering why real good comedies are so so rare.

This film is on par with those C-class westerns made in the 40's that had Nazis and Japanese war criminals in them (and trucks).

but it had a few laughs here and there...

I have hated pretty much every movie Adam has made; the only exceptions were THE WEDDING SINGER (saved by Drew Barrymore), 50 FIRST DATES (again, saved by Drew Barrymore) and SPANGLISH - which doesn't really count because it's not a comedy and Adam/Happy Madison had nothing to do with it (so it's not really an "Adam Sandler" movie.

Punch-Drunk Love (dir. Paul Thomas Anderson) was good. Probably his best acting, because he actually tried. Loved Happy Gilmore as a kid, but it hasn't really aged well. Funny People and Spanglish were alright. I haven't seen Reign Over Me (highly rated). Virtually every Happy Madison production is ridiculously bad.

Needless to say, Adam has lost a lot of my respect. He's a decent (formerly great) comedian and actor, but chooses to spend his time/money producing some really low-quality projects.

Come on people, Adam Sandler is not THAT bad.
Of course, Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore was funny in the 90's, especially if you had 15 or 17 years, but there is some really great movies out there:

- Anger management
- Spanglish (absolutely brilliant!)
- The longest yard
- Grown ups - one of the best comedies of 2010. I can't remember movie that made me laugh harder previous year. In comparison to this one - both Hangover movies sucked.

reply

You're ridiculous if you think Grown-Ups was better than both the Hangovers, let alone the first one.

Adam Sandler hasn't made a decent movie since the Billy Madison/Happy Gilmore/Wedding Singer days.

Thoughts on his recent works -- overall, I'm not a fan of them.

Click was the last straw for me. I have not watched anything he's been in since that, and I won't either. Happy Gilmore was hilarious. Billy Madison was OK. Waterboy and 50 First Dates had their moments. But, nothing else really has worked for me. From the previews, it looks as if Jack and Jill was an attempt to get back to his roots of "silly comedy" and away from the "comedic dramas" that he's been involved in recently (Spanglish, Click, Funny People). Too bad it seems to have fallen flat.

Sandler made a bunch of hilarious movies, most of them highly profitable so his career is just fine. I didn't see the movie and a 2.8 rating is probably not going to change that. The trailer looked promising, damn!

Smh, honestly when I saw the trailer I just kept violently shaking my head like "oh Lord, please tell me he didn't think this was a good idea. WHY Adam WHY??!!" lol Besides this movie, I think his last two Just Go With It and Grown Ups were incredibly watchable, they had some hilarious moments in there! Billy Madison was funny as a kid, but watching it recently? Ick. The Sandler movies I absolutely love are Waterboy, Big Daddy, Happy Gilmore, Spanglish, and Reign Over Me. Punch Drunk and Anger Management were ok for me.

As far as I'm concerned, he never had a career. Ever since I saw his first film, his name in the credits is a sign that says to me: avoid lika a plague. So, you've spent money on him... again? :-)

My personal opinion is that he hasn't made a funny movie since The Wedding Singer (and the previous movies), why? He became the boss, the man with the dollars who makes movies with friends. He doesn't have people surrounding him to pull him into line, add input or tell him when *beep* isn't working.

I did however like Click, because who doesn't like a good "Charles Dickens - A Christmas Carol" adaption (okay so it wasn't christmas time and it was basically just the ghost of christmas future but still)

Anyways, Reign Over Me was a good movie that he did a great performance in, not a comedy but he brought a goofyness to the character that is endearing and I honestly couldn't think of anyone else who could have filled his shoes without changing the dynamic of the role.

'Punch Drunk Love' and especially 'Reign Over Me' stand up.
I can just about stand 'The Wedding Singer and 'Big Daddy'. Apart from that all his movies should be buried in deep hole somewhere. Where is career can be found.
