Adam Sandler just killed his career.

I saw this because I was still hoping for a quirky comedy that Sandler used to give in the 90s/early 2000s (despite the bad trailer). Well this movie was pure garbage. I would just like to know WHAT THE HELL happened? I want to see more of Happy Gilmore/Waterboy/Deeds...not this Happy Madison related stuff.

I feel that Sandler has axed his career. Thoughts on his recent works?

Nevr found Sandler funny, not on SNL, not on film. With his latest ego gone amuck opus, the rest of the world finally agrees with me.

reply

His career died a good while ago. Around the time of 8 Crazy Nights by my estimation.

And 100 million hit after the next means that you're career is dead, right? Seriously the OP and everyone who agrees with him, doesn't know what killing a career actually means. If Adam's movies didn't make money, then yes his career would be dying.

I don't understand his decision to make this crappy movie. I thought Just Go With It was his first genuinely funny movie in a while and he follows it with this crap?

I find it hard to believe no one has mentioned Reign over me. It's one of the only movies in the past decade to have made me cry in the theater. Sandler can be amazing when he's serious.

You saw glimpses of that in Spanglish, and full-on drama with Reign over me and Punch-Drunk-Love. He CAN be an amazing actor, when he wants to be. I just wish he focused more on than that than this kind of garbage.

Reign Over Me is one of my favourite films ever, the scene where Charlie first acknowledges his family always makes me shed a tear or two.

one of his best movies was: just go with it.
and i also enjoyed these movies of him:

happy gilmore
don't mess with zohan

Reign Over Me was pretty good. Sandler's character was very scattered, which was understandable, but harder to like and get behind because of it. Cheadle was going around with that expression on his face like he was getting over some really bad news for the whole film but still pretty good overall.

Looks like one of those awful Eddie Murphy films where he plays more than one character. I was hoping that the Fatties parody in Tropic Thunder would make those films very uncool and therefore mostly unprofitable but I suppose not.

Anyway, early Sandler films like Billy Madison are great comedies. They're not great because they make you sit down and reflect but because they have a lot of incredibly daft to point of being non sequitur type humour along with a colourful supporting cast. Sure, they all have pretty much the same plot (loser type guy reaches something of a turning point in his life, comes good and gets the girl along the way) but people who criticize him for that, probably aren't going to like his films anyway.

I enjoy his more serious films as well and I wish he'd make more but I know that they wouldn't be as profitable as Mr. Deeds 2 and therefore we probably won't see too many.

Sorry to break it to you but nothing funny has ever come from Adam sandler. Never liked his humor and I think people are only now seeing how unfunny most of his work is.

reply

Yeah, I don't know why some people think Adam Sandler movies are funny. It's just pre-adolescent humor. A part of me hasn't really grown up but even that part can't stand Sandler movies. Hell, Sandler makes Ben Stiller movies actually watchable.

I think Sandler might have been entertaining in one or two movies, but just like The Hangover, the novelty wears off.

Stop supporting his movies until he actually produces something worth watching, even watching the trailer is a waste of a few minutes of your life. I'd rather watch substandard Youtube videos of people screwing around.

I have never been a big fan of Adam Sandler and the only movie that I have liked him in was Bedtime Stories, which is also a PG movie and a Disney movie, which seemed hard to believe, we all have the right to our opinions I just even Happy Gilmore which a lot of his older movies just seem to be about the same movie with his character getting married at some point, note I haven't seen every movie that Adam Sandler has acted in, even as far as leading actor and nor do I want to. I am not sure how much you can argue if you think that Happy Madison is a good movie, it is horrible.

reply

Happy Madison isn't a movie.

As long as Adam Sandler continues to make money for Hollywood (and as long as idiots continue to see his movies), he will never "kill" his career.

rip adam sandlers career. born - airheads. died - the wedding singer.

reply

You his career got a boost after he did the Wedding Singer. He followed it up with Waterboy which was his first film to get over 100 million at the box office. I can't tell if your being sarcastic?

reply

The Kid was release in 1921. I doubt anyone would mind seeing a rip off 80 years later.

I minded!

In these years all comedies have revolved around dirty jokes and sex (The hangover, Due date, Knocked Up, The hangover 2, etc). Go back to earlier movies that have been made and tell me you didn't laugh when you first saw them as a kid.
