What was so special about it?

I see all these glowing reviews for this movie and I just don't get it. Sure it wasn't terrible or anything and to me its just alright. But seriously there was nothing special about it. The synopsis on the back of the dvd case makes it out to be the greatest thing ever. It says "If you thing this is going to be the usual 'trapped teens stalked by a maniac' movie, you're dead wrong". Personally I think that is all it was and nothing more. Maybe I just missed something, I don't know, but what I do know is there are plenty of slashers out there worth watching before this.

It was fun? Does anyone remember how to have fun when watching films anymore? Or are we all supposed to take films too seriously and pick them apart. And since when is the crap on the back of DVD cases EVER accurate? It's there to sell DVDs to people that have no idea what they are buying and probably wouldn't know how to find out. If your complaint was that the film didn't live up to the marketing, then you have missed the point of what marketing is for.

As it stands, it was a fun slasher flick with enough surprises and moments to warrant a enjoyable night with beers and freinds.

I also bought the movie based on the blurb on the back: "But if you think that this is going to be the usual 'trapped teens stalked by a maniac' movie, you're dead wrong; from the first chilling kill to the final horrific twist, prepare yourself for the smart, intense and award-winning international sensation that has terrified audiences around the world."

Okay, so I thought that I would give the movie a chance.

No! It WAS the usual trapped teens stalked by a maniac movie. There was no twist, let alone a horrific one. And anyone "terrified" by this movie must live a pretty sheltered life. All of these promises would be true IF, this was your first ever slasher movie that you ever saw.

2 out of 10. There was nothing special about this movie. Cliched, standard story. It took 90 minutes to tell this story: 4 out of 5 people get killed in an abandoned chalet.

I'll go with the flow and be the 50th poster to say that it was a delight to watch but still quite a disappointment, considering what I had heard people say and what I read on the DVD cover. The characters were good, the setting was great (but a great setting does not a scary movie make), the script was slightly better than "meh", and the suspense and kills were about that of a decent modern slasher, like, say, All the Boys Love Mandy Lane. I agree with the posters that felt cheated on the violence, and the killer was alright. The only scene that rose above any other standard slasher was the crevasse, and I still thought that could have been played out more.

But still, if I thought this was going to be the usual "trapped teens... ...maniac" movie... I would be dead RIGHT.

Still! I'm happily waiting for either or both of the sequels to prove me wrong.

What was so special? Brilliant direction and very good acting. The fact it was cliche after cliche only intensified that. The story is totally predictable but I was at the edge of my seat towards the end. A great proof that films are about direction, cinematography, editing and acting, and Norway has some great talent in those departments.

I enjoyed Cold Prey, but yeah...after the cover boasted it as one of the best slashers ever, watching it was...well, a high disappointment. I mean, among the filthy crap of today's redundant slasher trash, yeah, it's a bit of fresh air, but if you put in smack dab in the middle of the 80s, would it even break into the best half of the slasher flicks? Like, ok, I LOVED the snowy atmosphere, and 4/5 of the characters...the blonde girl should have lived longer. She was my favorite. But as for it being one of the best slashers...no. We've seen most everything shown in it before, and it didn't really do anything exciting. Well made, true, but nothing spectacular, and for that, I am kind of upset. It's like when Hatchet was boasted as a return to 'old school' slashing...and ended up being just a post-Scream one with added gore and a legend.

Still...I'd give Cold Prey a 6.5/10. And I'm interested in the sequel. I hope someone releases it over here in N.A.

Best Norwegian movie ever made. Great story, loveable cast, the horror was there. Proud of being Norwegian after seeing it. Kinda need to understand Norwegain and not take use of that damn subtitle to get the full experience

I thought the samething. It was ok but nothing special
it wasn't any better than most American slasher flicks.

Sorry my northern friends but this was predictable. Not really that good I'm afraid.

It's pretty average and forgettable. Now if you excuse me I have to go eat burritos because I'm American and fat and it takes a genius to like this or whatever else everyone was babbling about.
