Jennifer Carpenter is soooo annoying

I just sat down to binge watch Dexter for the first time. OMG, Carpenter is so strange and annoying. It's mainly the way she speaks, very nervous and choked off. I'm probably the only person who is bothered by her - but 94 episodes to go.

reply

She is brilliant at the role she has plays

reply

She was great until she ask that her character be killed off...did she think she owned that character? She didn't and there was no reason to kill her off. They should have allowed her to accept Dexter and be his partner in crime, as needed.

.did she think she owned that character?

Clearly not, since you just stated that she asked to be killed off.

reply

Well, Harrison Ford had been trying to kill off Han Solo since 1977 and finally succeeded in 2015. He had much less investment in that character on screen, so I imagine after 8 years, an actor should have some say in their character.

reply

She and Michael C. Hall had just gone through a nasty divorce at the time. I imagine she wanted her character killed off so she didn't have to see him every day.

reply

She bothers me as well, her mannerisms are so annoying, and the way she walks.

reply

I also just binge watched Dexter from beginning to end. Of all the actresses, on all the series, she is by far the BEST actress of them all. She LIVED that role.

In fact, I'm shocked she didn't get her own series when all was said and done.

Your post is soooo annoying.

reply

We all have an opinion. I just didn't like her performance and stopped my binge. You like her so, enjoy.

reply

It's not a matter of liking "her" or not. She is a very talented actress. I enjoy watching "talent".

You have a chemical or personal issue with her. Perhaps she reminds you of someone you don't care for. There are actors I can't stand to watch also. Like Tatum Channing for example. I can't even read his name without getting nauseous. lol. Just the fact that he decided to become an actor annoys me, because I am forced to avoid movies I might have liked if it weren't for the fact that he is in them.

However, I wouldn't go to his IMDB page, or an IMDB page for a movie he was in, and bitch piss the guy because I personally have an issue with him.

Also, to blame her "performance" on whether or not you binge watch the show or not, has nothing to do with her talent as an actress. It's "all about you".

reply

Very belligerent and uncalled for.

reply

Funny, that's how I feel about your OP.

Nothing personal, I was just trying to provoke you into confessing the real reason you find JC offensive and annoying.

It wouldn't have attracted my attention so much if you were talking about Kenneth Brannah, or someone else I find talent-less, but Jennifer Carpenter is a well trained, truly talented actress who had to work with her ex-husband for years after they were divorced, making believe she loved the guy, after he cheated on her when they were married. She was so convincing in her role as the adopted sister that fell in love with her psychopath brother, it was a beautiful performance to watch.

Also, just for your info, I don't find Jennifer Carpenter attractive. I just love her talent. If anyone should have annoyed you on that show, it should have been Michael Hall. His limited range of emotion and acting skills were sometimes a real bore to watch. Loved the series however.

P.S. Don't have such thin skin on these boards....you won't have any fun.

I'll go back and remove the offensive phrase. I really didn't mean to come off nasty.

reply

It appears that you are a staff member at IMDB. Is that true?

reply

Lol...If I were a staff member, I'm sure I'd have been fired by now. No...have no idea where that idea came from. I am in the industry however.

reply

In the Badges Section of your Profile it says you are a staff member.

reply

Lol...If I were a staff member, I'm sure I'd have been fired by now.
Why would you have been fired by now?

reply

I don't see any staff member badge in my profile. I would have been fired for edgy rhetoric. If you want to have a conversation with me, you should move it to the private message area. It would be more fair to others whom may not wish to be reading a non subject related conversation.

Actually, I just read your OP again. It really isn't so bad. I exaggerated your post as being more of a put down on someone I find very talented.

Also, I thought you said you just got done binge watching Dexter, but you only had watched two episodes at that point. You have no idea how great that series gets as it matures and finds itself. You should do this: You already know that Dexter is the killer of the serial killers, so I suggest you bite your tongue and try to put up with your dislike for JC, and skip to season 7. That is my favorite year. Then you'll see how the show has progressed, and you can either go back to where you left off, or pop in year 8 and be done with it.

I'll bet you'll like the improved JC in the later episodes. Good luck.

You really need a brain and personality transplant. What a unbelievably tone deaf & unpleasant shill you are for this Carpenter actress.

Thanks, I'll consider the source. I just clicked on your name and saw "all the wonderful, knowledgeable, contributions" you made in your 9 years here. That would be "ZERO".
As in -0-.

Then I read your ratings and saw the movies you liked and didn't like. You are a "Serial loser". No taste, the brain of an 8 year old, and no class.

Sincerely,
Your Pal... Unknownian

reply

Found her character to be very annoying. I saw her first in Exorcism of Emily Rose where she wasn't that way at all. So clearly this is what the writers wanted so I don't fault Carpenter at all.

reply

I agree with your assessment of JC, as Deb, I think she was excellent in the role, very believable in her emotions and actions.

reply

Well LaGuerta or what her name was is even more annoying !

reply

thank you. same here... from the beginning I couldn't stand her acting, or the character.

reply

Welcome to the club. lol. Huge majority agree with us.

reply

Lol you stupid cxnt she was the best actress on the show

reply

She could barely speak English and couldn't act. oh, you can call your mommy the c word but not me, loser.

reply

You're right and you're wrong. DEBRA MORGAN is annoying. Jennifer Carpenter is brilliant.

reply

I think what turned me off about her is her physical appearance. She's quite unattractive

reply

I wasn't particularly impressed by TV show dexter. For me, it's just a crime soap opera.

However, Jennifer Carpenter AND her character of Debra Morgan AND the chemistry between her and Dexter was one of the reasons I watched this show till the end.
I found her mannerism totally perfect for her role. Her and Dexter were definitely the best castings of whole show + (very) few others throughout the seasons..

Frankly, I think, it is you Teresa (and a few other females on this board) just feeling a bit intimidated by Jennifer.. and that's okay, she was just too good in Dexter.

reply

I watched 2 episodes, made my comment and stopped my intended binge watching of Dexter feeling it just wasn't a show I wanted to invest more time in. My main problem with the actress was her, to me, unusual way of speaking. So intimidated, no.

reply

lol @ everyone saying you're "intimidated" or whatever...

Hey, if you don't like an actress, or a character, so what?

I'll tell ya this tho:

Like you, I disliked her (the character) at first as well, not enough to make me stop watching, but she actually ended up being a superb character,
I still didn't really like her, but her character grew into one of, if not the best on the entire show.

jmo

:)

Ha! Made ya look! :D

aj - Thanks for being civilized, lol. Usually people are pretty laid back on the imdb message board but some of these people were unbelievably hostile.

One guy posted a profanity laden message, thought better of it, edited out the profanity, told me he did ME a favor by cleaning it up, ranted about the actress's divorce and work schedule (like he actually knew her) and THEN he told me I was wasting other's poster's time, for me to stop posting replies and 'let's go to a private message' because this wasn't the place to continue a discussion. Oh, he also said I was thin skinned and would enjoy the message board more if I stopped being so so thin skinned. Can you believe that???

One guy called me the c word - I've reported it several times and they won't remove it.
What is wrong with people?

These are opinions and everyone has them. No need to completely loose your mind over it and act like you stopped taking your meds for a serious mental disorder.

Like I said, I watched two episodes and decided it just wasn't for me. I've never seen Carpenter before or since those two episodes and feel totally neutral to her as an actress or a person.
All I know is, what goes around comes around and the people who have exhibited this uncalled for behavior will get it right back, all crazy and out of the blue just like they dished out.

LOL, take care
T :-)

You must be lucky...People trip out like you raped their mother if you disagree with them on the boards I've been on!

I JUST finished the series last night.
It's a decent show. I didn't hate the later seasons as some, and the finale was meh-ok, not horrible. (Keep in mind I didn't invest 8 years, more like 2 weeks :P )

Anyways, I suspect the show wasn't up your alley rather than her....She's a main character, but rarely does she have TOO much screen time - sans Gemma/Sons of Anarchy.

Like I said, I really didn't like her character from the start, and though there were moments I did, all in all I still didn't really like her.
Regardless, she DID evolve into a very good character. (read as, her character got better and was less...choppy. The actress really stepped up her game as the show went on)
The 1st season, as with most series, starts kinda weak as it's, well...New and they're figuring out the stride and all.

I've never heard of Jennifer Carpenter before this show, and I don't recall seeing her before but to her credit, she ended up nailing it.

Regardless,
peace out

:)

No one on television is worse than Anna Gunn, and I loved Breaking Bad. She's a fantastic actress, but she constantly plays the role of *beep* which kind of makes you wonder if she really is one. But that's just the angle she's comfortable playing. I would never have drinks with her as a person, but I'd hate watch anything she plays in cause she is talented and I love to hate her.
