Worst character on the Show?

I thought of just starting a thread on how much I disliked Pete, but why not make it general and ask who everyone found to be their least favorite, on 30 Rock?

For me, Pete was just so DULL. His neurosis was not amusing in any way. I guess he was supposed to be the "straight man" to the group, mostly anyway. But nothing else worked in his favor.

Poor Scott Adsit, playing such an uninteresting character on such a great show, for seven years! Even his story in the finale was waaah-waaah.

Hated Hazel.

Pete was funny imo - he was mundane, sad, pathetic, lonely. Just what ever comedy needs!!

I always just assumed that Lutz was based on Republican Pollster Frank Luntz. Also, the actor, also named J D Lutz, went to high school with a friend of mine from college and went to college with a friend of mine from high school.

Um, what???

I'm not sure what you don't understand. The show was chuck full of anti-Republican references, and inside jokes. Maybe Tina Fey liked the idea of creating a look-alike character with a sound-alike name to a Republican pollster, and making every other character hate him.

Are you also confused about the fact that I made friends in both high school and college, or do I need to explain that one as well?

reply

Wow, who even remembers Frank Luntz these days? Except that he does do the occasional sketch on The Daily Show. There is a mild resemblance, with the khakis and button-down shirts, but Lutz is Lutz. Lutz was Lutz before he was Lutz on 30 Rock.

I wonder if Lutz has ever been to The Lutz? Probably knows of it. Haven't been to The Lutz myself in ages.

I thought you were "done" here?

I'll repeat myself since the question seems to have eluded you again:

Did you not state you were "done" here?

Yes, all references on "30 Rock" were current. Like when Alan Alda referenced the "MASH" finale from 1982, or Alec Baldwin referenced "Knots Landing." Or when Tina Fey referenced "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip." Or when Tracy Morgan referenced "The Jetsons."

I thought Pete was one of the better characters. I've spent the last few seasons being disappointed that they spent too much time on the main five characters and mostly ignored Pete and the writers. I don't think it was the character that was bad, it was just bad how underutilized he became.

While I didn't hat her, Hazel was probably my least favorite. Again, she mostly just took away from characters that I found to be funnier, like Pete and the writers.

It's tough when there are that many characters to feature them all.
That said, the episodes where they beefed up Frank's role (IE, he moves in with Liz, SunTea, or has to deal with his mother who is upset about his relationship with Liz, etc) are not the strongest episodes in my opinion.

If you look at other shows like "The Office", the almost NEVER do "B" or "C" stories about peripheral characters like Phyllis, Creed or Stanley.

Much better than the other 8 Stubby's

All the characters have their pros and cons except for Hazel who was the worst with no pros at all.

But they can be part of the stories rather than just ignore them. Early on the writers played a bigger part in the show even if they didn't have their own stories. Later on they were just left out completely.

I agree.

reply

Almost every episode features scenes in the writer's room.

I agree. I've been watching this for a while and grew to really like him. The humor is so subtle, but I find his character really hilarious.

My least favourite is Hazel but she doesn't need any more votes, so after that probably Avery's mother.

Upon repeat viewings of Season 6 and 7, I actually don't hate Hazel that much anymore. I wouldn't care if she didn't exist, but I don't hate her either.

reply

The odd thing about Hazel is, she got the best lines.

reply

Pete was one of my favorites. Jenna was the most boring character to me, "Muffin Top" notwithstanding.

reply

Jonathan, by far.

Cerie

Hazel.

Even if it means me taking a chubby, I will suck it up!

I've only just started watching this show (got through the first two seasons in just three days!) and I absolutely cannot stand Frank. Pete, on the other hand, is one of my favourite characters so far.

Simpson 10, terrorists 8

reply

Yeah I'd say Hazel, less easier choice is for sure Frank.
