Can a new story not be written around his age?
sharePerhaps, but it would be a story about him back in England living on an estate and not fighting. Of course, he could be like Bruce Willis, Stallone, and Cruise and keep doing action flicks into their 60s (he's 61 already) but for me as a viewer that just comes across as ridiculous and contrived.
