A beautiful masterpiece

The Tree of Life is one of the most beautiful films I have ever seen. A wondrous, poetic, profound film that is brilliantly directed by the great Terrence Malick. One of the greatest films of all time and a must see. 10/10.

It's beautiful but I grew tired of it. There were some good things. Sean Penn's onscreen time was limited. Good! Jessica Chastain and Brad Pitt both delivered fine performances. I don't like to be critical of kid actors but they were not very good in this film, the same note throughout which became tedious. There are moments of glorious beauty but for a film north of 3 hours, I expected a more compelling story. By the end, I was left thinking 'That's it?'. The two minute trailer was more interesting than the three hour film.

I didn't think much of it the first time but many years later I saw the extended cut the Criterion Collection put out and I loved it. I found it very touching and didn't feel the length at all.

Certainly not a film for everyone. But a very rewarding one.

Agreed. The best cinematography maybe? Only that of Chariots Of Fire maybe was better.
