Was it right to bring Gavin back?

Just for Rowena to score points off her son Crowley?

Thoughts....

Even though the moment between Ruth and Mark S at the end of the episode was well acted it wasn't worth the journey to get there. Rowena exacted revenge on Crowley for a something she didn't have to do? Seemed kind of extreme.
I'm glad that Gavin is no longer a dangling thread but I really wasn't that curious about where he was and what he was up to anyway.

I was okay with them bringing Gavin back, but I feel that he was only used to emphasize the family story line they are going with at the moment.

Honestly I barely remembered Gavin so I had no investment at all in what they did to him. It was supposed to be touching but it really wasn't all that sad for me. The episode was just so-so imo so it was hard getting involved. I did kind of like him though.

I wasn't really impressed they brought back Gavin. Although it reminded me of Benny. Both were having problems because they were out of touch with the present way of life. Both even admitted they had been having problems integrating into the new life. I did wish Gavin had been given a different story as to why he was returning to his own time. I'm not sure what but girlfriend turned ghost monster didn't seem to be the way to do it.

lilmac I do agree with you, he did sort of remind me of Benny's circumstances. This show does love to show us parallels and stories that feel similar. Gavin admitted he didn't belong and wanted by his own omission to go back because he was lonely and missing his true love. I didn't like that he was brought back just so Crowley and Rowena could score points off one another. I liked the character and they could have woven him in much better.

It was a dangling thread so I expected to see Gavin again. I liked him a lot better this time around but I wasn't super invested in his girlfriend's story. Not when a new Prince of Hell (Dagon) was being introduced and when The Original Dark Pellegrino was making his comeback in Crowley's dungeon.

Hm I didn't see it as an episode for Rowena to get back at Crowley in a way.

Supernatural seems to like to bring back characters, like hey do you remember the time we ran into this character? Also, Gavin was kinda left up in the air - like what happened to him? Did his existence mess with life - apparently so. Did I care to see him again - not really. Do I want to see Claire back in two weeks - nope.

I saw it as Rowena saw an opportunity and took it. Two birds.

I kind of agree but not, I think the aim was more complex than that.

Sure she struck back at Crowley which is Rowena. But I also kind of see that last scene as her actually trying to be a kind of mum, not a great one, but trying. She was sort of deliberately pushing him away at the same time as well as making it easier for her wee boy. Crowley can be pissed at her, which makes losing his son when he sort of got use to not being complete scum to him a little bit easier.

Not to mention the Gavin paradox got sorted.

The thing with Gavin is that by bringing him back in season 9 you had a legitimate reason for why Crowley had Bobby in Taxi Driver, because it basically meant that Bobby never got out of his contract. I guess it could be said that Bobby didn't get out of his contract, because Gavin didn't hate his dad when he got sent back and didn't tell Bobby where Crowley's bones were, but that'll never be said in canon.
