WHAT WAS UP WITH THE CAT??

What was up with that half-dead cat thing in Josh's closet?? Why was it all messed up like that?? Was it supposed to be the ghost of a dead cat that came thru his computer/cellphone/whatever?? Seems like they sorta forgot about it after showing it in that one scene.

I find it interesting that most people felt so bad for the cat or thought that it promotes animal violence, but make no mention of all the people who die during the film.

When Mattie goes back to Josh's apartment to get his computer she confronts the landlady. As the landlady goes to the safe to get the bounced check she mutters to herself about Josh's nonpayment of rent, the dead cat in the closet, and how this girlfriend now shows up - giving her grief about the stupid computer.

Yes, I did feel bad about the cat 'cause she doesn't use phones and internet stuff. As for the humans who do that, let them fry ! :))

I mean, if the movie is lame, I'd rather see them whacked all at once, not through 95 minutes or so. :))

It's an interesting human reaction, isn't it, about being feeling bad about animals being harmed or killed in movies, but no complaints about the humans. At least about adults. We get the same instinctual reactions when bad things happen to children. Children and animals are innocents.

The cat thing felt like it was just there for a scare and disgusting creep-out, but I don't think it was necessarily gratitous. I agree with the others who pointed out that it showed Josh's state of mind, that he stopped caring about all things, people and his pet cat, that he used to care about.

But, one of the problems with the movie is that we never get to know Josh before he gets infected. That is, we don't know how much he loved his cat in the first place, or how close he was to his friends and all of that. If we did get the chance to see him playing with his cat or cuddling him or whatever, that scene would have been emotionally powerfull, rather than just gross.

Hmm, agree! I was completely thrown back, thinking why was there a dying dirty cat in his closet. I only sunked in afterwards, that it was his pet. He did get to see him and Mattie in bed, in flashback, right? But what you said is on point, it's hard to relate to Josh and the impact of his passing, because we knew so little of him.

I did enjoy his "death" in the library though. The book being pushed out, and that freaky trolley rolling by itself. If you notice, once the face came out of the dark hole in between the books, that trolley came back to get him, causing him to trip & fall to the floor.

Almost like it had a mind of its own.

Animal violence usually begets human violence, so everyone should care about all of it. However, some people say "awww" and some people volunteer themselves to fight to stop it some way through helping animals, helping children, helping battered women, etc., etc. People are needed in all of theses areas to help stop violence, any area they choose to help in is important and not necessarily to the exclusion of the others.

All you people are going on about the cat - which is cool, I have two but wasn't too disturbed because I didn't even notice it was a cat till about a minute later...

My point is... no one seems to be creeped out by the fact that the guy who plays the 'ghost guy thing' actually really looks like what I'd expect a ghost guy to look like. Personally, I find that really creepy. And I wonder whether he actually is a professional 'ghost guy'. Hmmm... or whether ghost guy gets some serious acting jobs. Anyway. I will shut up now. Just thought I'd comment...

"Do u know what ur lil stunt just cost me?" "Well Im pretty sure u wont b gettin ur bong back." VM

The guy was taped up in his apartment for so long that the cat was nearly starved to death, it didn't have any food to eat.

I saw a lot of disturbing footage after Katrina of lost pets that bothered me way more than this.

My friend who was watching the movie told me about a cat she found in her basement that wound up there and got locked in for a month. It was barely alive and had fever blisters and was all fkd up. All bloody from going insane and was basically a surviver of cat suicide. Meaning the cat's stuck in a room for so long, it gets demensia and then just go's crazy.

reply

Oh no, that's awful. What did she do with the cat when she found it? Take it to the vet? I'm guessing it had to be put to sleep. Poor thing.

Daniel Craig?......I'm in love!!!!

People are dying left and right and you damn "animal-lovers" worry about the stupid cat? :p

Yes. People are stupid, they can die all they want, I could care less. People deserve no sympathy.

Just take a walk outside on the street and see people's reaction when someone beats his/her kid in a crowd of people. There'll be no significant reaction, mostly look-away or slight-head-shaking. But if someone pulls his/her dog too hard or beats it, they'll call the police or he/she will be lynched right there.
Don't get me wrong, I don't think people should harm their animals, but I hate this *beep* human hypocrisy. Disgusting. Embarrassing.
Sorry, I had to say that. Never return to this thread.

Speak for yourself but animal, child, adult, whatever, I have no problem jumping into that situation. People who do stuff like that are bullies and when someone actually stands up to them, they are incredulous. We all need to be willing to go to the mat for one another, if more people would, the world would be a better place. My dogs would die for me, I can't know that kind of fierce loyalty and not be willing to extend that to the other sentient beings I encounter in life, human or not. Life is important, PERIOD.

reply

Amen to that. We have our own perverted rules which don't apply to animal world. And vice versa.

reply

It is supposed to signify the part about the weird computer people taking your will to live. If you have no will to live, how can you care for something/someone else? Since Josh lost his will to live, as a result he starved the cat.

"People are dying left and right and you damn "animal-lovers" worry about the stupid cat? :p"

Because people are stupid and arrogant. Animals don't have any drive to kill for the sake of murder and are naturally innocent at heart... and when we humans neglect them, what can they do? It is human's responsibilty to take care of them... there's a difference between humans dying and animals dying, most of humans killing animals when a mountain lion or shark kills a human... it stupid why we need the revenge to take the life of an innocent when it's just trying to survive like its done for centuries. I wouldn't care if it were me (being attacked by an animal)

...O.o what has this thread come to? what am i saying? this is about a gooey cat o.O lol
I still love cats and that scene was depressing =\

Haha the movie was getting pretty boring up until that part- then when the cat showed, I was like "Now THAT'S more like it!!!!!!"

However, sorry if I upset animal lovers here (especially myself being a cat lover) but that kinda made me giggle due to how poorly done that scene was. You could see a wire popping out of the "gooey" cat's (LMAO) neck. Even the whole thing in Trainspotting with Timmy dying and leaving his cat all alone was more upsetting...

Nonethtless it was a good movie, I liked it a lot.

My cat isn't very innocent... he poops all over the house, steals food from my dogs, gets into fights with my little baby brother and kills mice and doesn't even eat them. Then he laughs... seriously.

reply

I think everyone else is wrong. Clearly the cat is not starving to death otherwise it wouldn't have been bloody like it was.
Plus, it had only been a few days since Josh actually saw the thing that made him go crazy.

I think that the thing that got to Josh possibly got to the cat too. It could have sucked it's will to live out also and therefore the cat is decaying like Stone and Izzy do and anyone else who doesn't kill themself.

No where does it mention that animals are immune from what is going on. I think that is what is wrong with the cat.

reply

Have none of you even thought that perhaps the cat was a victom of the soul snatchers too? I mean if they are that *beep* up and need life would it matter what kind? life is life lets get over it and enjoy the movie for a movies sake sheeeeesh.

reply

I can't believe it took 6 pages for someone to come up with this idea. I was going to post it myself but want to see if it had already been said. I think you are right. I don't see why the soul-sucking-frequency-hopping-cousins-of-the-descent-monsters couldn't take the life/soul from an animal. I mean there is to be a second one made maybe more will be revealed in that?

reply

Maybe the wifi ghost cat got it and now it does not have the will to live ^^
