WHAT WAS UP WITH THE CAT??

What was up with that half-dead cat thing in Josh's closet?? Why was it all messed up like that?? Was it supposed to be the ghost of a dead cat that came thru his computer/cellphone/whatever?? Seems like they sorta forgot about it after showing it in that one scene.

reply

I'm /pretty/ sure it was dying from neglect, actually.

reply

Yeah, but that was one nasty lookin cat.
Spew!

reply

I thought it was a dog at first - it looked THAT bad

Dogs look bad?

I think he/she meant that it looked so decayed and strange, she couldn't tell it was supposed to be a cat and mistook it for a dog.

reply

I hated the part with the cat, I have 5 house cats. I knew it was fake, but still I can't stand to see an animal in a movie like this.

That part kinda got to me too. I have three cats at home (one of which I am currently petting while typing this) and I volunteer at a cat shelter. That was definitley the most disturbing scene in the movie.

I hate cats

reply

i agree. it was totally gratuitous. It made no sense and they went nowhere with it. So why include it at all? There were a lot of dumb things in this movie but they all contributed to the story (sort of). This didn't. I'm always afraid that things like this give sickos (more sick) ideas.

reply

I'm pretty sure it was meant to show that Josh was "gone" at that point, that his humanity had left him.

reply

But it's OK to see people dying?

reply

But I don't get it? It even says this in the trivia. Look? "She loves animals and often volunteers for animal related charities." I copied and pasted that. But in the movie it looks like she hates animals. What is up with that?

I know exactly what you mean man. Like, I can watch people in movies get tortured and stuff, but animals are completely different.

reply

Guys, there are "people" people and then there are "animal" people.

My girlfriend can watch those sick murder stories about women getting killed and raped and babies getting hurt and she has no problem with it. But she can't stand to watch a cat get hurt!! I don't understand this line of thinking. I won't even go see a film if I sense that a woman will be raped or a child hurt.

I hate seeing women and children get hurt and I hate seeing animals get hurt but I have no problem watching guys get blown up in action films. However, I don't like seeing anyone get killed in real life documentaries, i.e. scenes like American soldiers getting killed in Iraq.

The cat had been trapped in the closet for, probably, days without food or water. It's supposed to illustrate just how far gone josh is.

They actually mention it later in the movie, it died.

reply

well, I guess we can be grateful that they did not show us the local zoo. I doubt that animals in Bucharest get great care even in the best of times.

What do you think people?!
That there is a jungle in romania?!
Come on!
They do movies in romania just because , for now , is more cheap that in good ol' usa....

reply

I felt so bad for the cat, it had to be made to look like that.
that scene was definitely the worst for me to watch, I have two cats at my house.

reply

It was a fake cat. They didn't make a real cat look like that.

The plural of mouse is mice. The plural of goose is geese. Why is the plural of moose not meese?

reply

14 cats? Wow, your house must SMELL BAD!!!!!!!!!!

reply

It was dehydrated...of being kept in that closet for a long time.

reply

There was a serious problem with that cat. Being locked in a closet would *not* cause it to look like it just came out of amnio. Poorly thought, poorly shot.

The maggots too - it takes weeks for maggots to grow to that size.

Very unrealistic.

reply

^^^^yes. skinny, yes. fur all slicked down and matted, no. plus I loved the fact that she was all freaked out that he killed himself. if I went to someone's house, found his fridge unplugged, leaking fluids and maggot-infested, and he had locked his cat in a closet to die of neglect, the last thing I would have done would be let him go off to another room alone. "I should have seen the signs." DUH ridiculous scene meant to shock and make cat lovers (I have a couple myself) cringe and wring their hands.

reply

how did it get so darn GOOEY!?! :0P haha just kidding! does anyone have a picture of the cat? My cat has a corner for when he's in time-out called the 'KITTY CORNER' (haha!! I know) and I want to put a picture of this cat up to teach him who's boss. Any help is much appreciated!

reply

"very unrealistic"? lol

just this quote: "why don't you just erase the HDD?", "I tried, it wouldn't let me." LOL

reply

I guess that scene was funny or miserable but definitely not scary. The way the "cat" twisted its neck was so artificial looking. You could easily imagine the wires in its body and how a guy was operating the buttons. I agree that if a cat is starved to death it won't get bloody or messy. Or was that dirt something else than blood?

reply

Dehydrated or not, it had no place in the movie.
It seems that every now and then, Hollywood just throws in something disgusting and totally gratuitous in movies, just to show senseless violence on animals.
I personally can't think of a justified reason for that.

reply

The cat scene was totally uncalled for and the girl had basically no reaction to it so what's the point. In a movie that actually could have used some gore to make it somewhat entertaining we find the only gore used on an animatronic cat left in the closet, thats poor taste. This movie did nothing for me in fact it took away my time and some sanity for exposing myself to this kind of nonsensical film. Overall a depressing waste of time and resources, now I understand why it bombed and was lambasted by critics.

reply

I think they "borrowed" the cat that was cut out of David Lynch's Eraserhead. A brilliant movie by the way. You'll have to see the Eraserhead DVD to find out what I'm talking about - very disturbing.

reply

Eraserhead. Ha!
