Rated 8.2 on IMDB

Obvious sjw scorecard is obvious. Saw it tonight and while it was fine for what it was, it was nowhere near the levels of insane awesomeness thats been banded about in reviews. Its a female super hero movie so it must be amazing!!!!! Its not. Its no better or worse than the other movies in the series. Although its a lot more cheesy. Theyve tried to inject some humour which is easy to understand since the previous movies have all been largely humourless. Theres a really cheesy heavy handed message of love will make everything better. eye roll.

The overly sexual nature of a female lead is still a problem, with far too much time devoted to how hot WW is. Slow mo ass kicking with gratuitous crotch shots. Hair so perfect that not even smashing through a building puts a single one out of place. etc etc. All the usual female kicking ass stuff we're used to.

I imagine that even suggesting this isnt any better or worse the other movies in the series makes me some kind of sexist. Sorry but its just the way I see it. When they make a movie with a female lead that isnt overly sexualised, Ill be happy a pig in shit. Until then, women will continue to be nothing more than sex objects that have no function out side of some guys spankbank. Yes I understand its comic book character blah blah blah, but wonderwoman isnt just sex. She was build as well. So if their excuse is that its comic book stuff and we stuck to it, then why didnt they have gal gadot hitting the gym? Both cavell and affleck worked out like mad men for their roles. Some reason a build woman isnt "sexy"? Is "sexy" confined to how thin you are? Sorry in my view this movie did nothing for women in lead roles as action movies that hasnt been done to death already.

You're probably right about the sjw scorecard. I was only being half serious about it being a possible winner. Judging from the previews it looks like a typical Marvel film. Probably good, but not great.

Pretty much. Its not a horrible movie, its just the way everyone was talking about it I thought it was going to be really, really great. But yeah, not a million miles away from a typical marvel movie. Im happy I get two for one cinema tickets though lol.

Thanks for the heads up. Have you seen Alien Covenant?

😎

reply

I have, unfortunately that was another movie I wasnt overly impressed with. I wasnt a huge fan of prometheus but I liked what it was trying to do. So when covenant just threw all the build up of that story away to make an alien movie I wasnt too happy with it. As a stand alone movie about aliens its fine, fitting into the bigger picture of the franchise I feel it weakens it severely. Much like the phantom menace screwed star wars over with inconsistencies so too does covenant with the original alien.

Did you like it?

Thanks for the review. I haven't seen it yet, but will probably do so this weekend because I'm a fan of the franchise. Nothing will ever match the original though.

I wasn't overly impressed by Prometheus either.

Alien: Covenant... Ohgodwhyyy....

Prometheus sucked ass, but at least piqued my interest for the following movie(s), as it raised some interesting questions.

Alien: Covenant mostly ignored said questions, and made a horror gore movie, with really stupid characters and events.

Shaw had so much potential, the answers she sought out to find could have been so interesting - but nope! Insert super goo, goo powered aliens with a growth rate of 1kg/min, super idiots and you end up with a horror gore flick, trying to be way smarter than it was.

So I take it you didn't like this movie.

I saw it the other day and it was pretty decent. No where as good as many reviews would have you believe.

I sincerely wanted to have that "hell yeah!" moment upon exiting the theater because I've loved DC characters since I was a kid; WB needed a comic book film that stood above the other DCEU attempts.
First 2/3rds of the film had WW on its way to being a gem only to come out kinda meh by the final boss fight. I wanted something more like The Incredible Hulk and Abomination instead of what I got.

When Gadot isn't speaking at times and is just kicking ass, she's really good at it (this is the highlight of her in the role) but she isn't a very good actress IMO. Some of her delivery was cringe-worthy.
Also the movie OD'ed on the use of slo-mo in parts where it just wasn't needed.

Patty Jenkins did a good job but it wasn't fully realized. I just call it the best of the mediocres( with the exception of Suicide Squad which is just BAD)
I do think that Jenkins and Gadot deserve a sequel however with better writing and pacing in key parts..

I thought the final act was the best part of the movie by far. The movie only dragged a little when they stopped to introduce the "howling commandos" guys. The conversations between the lead heroes and villains at the party was the best dialogue in the movie. And then the confrontation and dialogue between Ares and Diana was outstanding as well. Compare to some of the cringe-worthy dialogue that ended movies like Iron Man and Captain America. This movie was getting back to the kind of good dialogue between heroes and villains that we had in Star Wars OT and with Zod in the first 2 Superman movies. It's difficult to remember any dialogue exchanges between heroes and villains in modern superhero movies that meant anything at all and wasn't just there for exposition or to exchange cheap cliches.

We'll just respectively agree to disagree. It wasn't a great movie.
Glad you liked it though. That's all that matters, yes?

reply

It was 8.5 on opening Thursday (I think). It is also dropping out of the IMDB top 250. Normal for hyped movies.

There are no negative reviews on metacritic. SJW outrage at the four negative reviews of GirlyGhostBusters taught them!

I've noticed that trend on some movies. They're rated very high by the fanboys, and then they start falling. I think I'll skip this one.

Highly overrated. WW is 7.0 at best.

This is not my favorite genre, but I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. Great summer time fun.

Thanks for that, MrSpock. I think I will see it this weekend.

You are most welcome. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did (closing my eyes). Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as we all know.

I thought using WW 1 as the backdrop was pretty cool, and for me, after watching Genius (Albert Einstein) this past week, which happened to discuss the German scientist who created the deadly poison gas that killed many allies during that war ......... it was kind of creepy in an ironic way to see this played out here in WW. I'm a history buff, so maybe that part perked my interest even more than the average movie viewer.

Cheers.

Ye and that is a big joke of a rating....WB probably bought every fuckin critic out there to save themselves from more bad reviews, but this movie is really bad, not the director or actors but the writing is horrible and all those logical gaps every 5 minutes makes this one of the worst comic book movies ever made if youre older than 10 and have a brain...but whatever floats your narrow mind....

Click,
Thanks for the info. I'm going to go out on a limb and infer that you didn't like Wonder Woman. Don't worry. I was never really serious about seeing it. It looked kinda dumb in the trailer.

By "one of the worst comic book movies ever made," where would you rank it relative to Affleck's Daredevil, R.I.P.D., Jonah Hex, Howard the Duck, Barb Wire, any Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles theatrical movie, The Phantom, the 1990 Captain America, Ghost Rider, and the most recent Fantastic Four? I know this is often a matter of personal taste, but all of those seemed much worse to me.

reply

even Afflecks daredevil, R.I.P.D, Jonah Hex, Barb Wire, howard the Duck and TMNT are way better actually...they are bad but this movie is fuckin horrible...the only comic book movies that is worse than wonder woman, is Iron Man 3 and Suicide Squad...
