What's your list of the top 10 scariest movies ever

10.A Nightmare on Elm Street
"Elm Street" was one of the greatest horror movies ever made, yet, one of the scariest. Freddy Krueger delivers thrills and chills in this exceptional horror flick.

9. Carrie
"Carrie" was a classic academy-award winning Stephen King movie. Not because it was scary, but because it was an outstanding movie. Not only did I find it as an outstanding film, but I also found it as a horrorfest.

8. Wes Craven's New Nightmare
"New Nightmare" was the 7th film in the "Elm Street" series. I found it more shocking, jaw-dropping, and intense than the other "Elm Street" flicks.

7. Final Destination
Even though FD1 wasn't as scary as FD3, it still delivered jaw-dropping intensity that's sure to make you scream during the airplane crash scene. (It seems so real!)

6. Pet Sematary
Most people find this movie as "okay" and "incomplete," but I found it as "terrifying" and "some gruesome goodness."

5. Final Destination 3
I've been haunted by this movie ever since I watched it. It's so scary...I can now barely ride a rollercoaster at all.

4. Misery
It's jaw-dropping, it's freaky, it's based on a true story-ish, it's "Misery." This is another very good Stephen King movie, and it sure delivered a bag of surprises. (Wait till you get to the hobbling scene :P)

3. Halloween
There's rarely a successful horror movie that isn't intense and is still a horrormania, and "Halloween" was one of those movies. It was another one of John Carpenter's astonishing movies, and this time it's sure to freak out viewers.

2. The Shining
THIS STEPHEN KING FLICK WAS SCARY!!!! It delivered some horrifying goodness as well as some famous quotes like "Heeeeere's Johnny!" and "Redrum!"

1. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Oh. My. God. THIS CLASSIC HORROR FLICK FREAKED ME OUT. Every time I hear people use "Leather", "Face," and "Chainsaw" in one sentence, I just flip.

i don't have my top 10, but i'll list it down anyway

The Shining:

creepy film, but 2 parts that scared me were the two twins and the blood elevator

The Terminator:

fantastic film. whenever the terminator appeared, his dark and cold theme plays perfectly

It:

put simply, clowns are scary

Saw:

the part where the photographer gets a power-cut and he uses his flashlight. then he tries to switch it on but it doesn't work. also the mask he sees and when Jigsaw jumps the guy. my god i was scared as hell

Predator (i can't believe nobody mentioned this one):

c'mon, that film is so great and fast-paced. and the Predator's mask and him unmasking himself is just scary and excellent. also being trapped in a jungle with an invisible hunter is a nightmare from hell

reply

I can't believe only one person mentioned PUMPKINHEAD!!:) THAT IS THE SCARIEST MOVIE EVER MADE!

I don't really have a list of scary movies b/c this is the only movie that has ever scared me. I do have a list of best horror movie, in no order:

The Ring (only the first American version, haven't seen the Japenese versions, but the American sequel sucked)

Saw series

Nightmare on Elm Street series

Scream series

Halloween series

Psycho (only the original, the sequels and remake sucked)

Invasion of the Body Snatchers--The best classic horror movie EVER!

Pet Semitary

Ghost Ship (only saw the remake, but it was awesome)

Final Destination series

In no order:
The Thing
The Blair Witch Project
Friday the 13th part 2
A Nightmare on Elm Street
Halloween
The Silence of the Lambs
The Descent
Alien
Black Christmas
Scream

reply

10) The ring

9) The blair which project!

8) The texas chainsaw massacre

7)Cannible holocaust

6) last house on the left

5) The Descent

4) The silence of the lambs

3) Jaws

2) Halloween

1) Alien

reply

1) Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)
-Scared the crap out of me when I was a kid, still makes me turn away when Leatherface clubs that dude with the hammer and pulls him into that room and slams the door.

2) Hellraiser (1987)
-Demons from hell after your soul are much scarier than psycho killers any day.

3) Night of the Living Dead (1968)
-I love zombie movies, and this one was and still is the best.

4) Halloween (1978)
-The first two are great to watch back to back alone at night with the lights out. There is just something about Michael Myers' strut as he chases his victims that scares the crap out of me.

5) A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)
-The original was scary, all the sequels sucked. Just the idea of Freddy and how he kills is what is scary about this movie.

6) Friday the 13th (1980)
-The first 3 were good. Again, like Halloween, Jason's walk and silence is what is really creepy.

7) Jaws (1975)
-This was not a good movie to watch considering I grew up 2 blocks from the ocean and love to surf.

8)Pumpkinhead (1989)
-What I found scary about this movie was the really messed up ways Pumpkinhead would kill his victims.

9) Phantasm (1979)
-This movie combined my two biggest fears, midgets, and levitating chrome balls of death ;)

10) House of 1,000 Corpses (2003)
-While there are other movies that I feel are a better fit for my 10 spot *Psycho, Re-Animator, Evil Dead, Return of the Living Dead* I needed to put a movie made recently in my top 10 *or I'd feel like one of those trolls that hates on newer movies*, and this movie I liked because it combined many elements that I enjoy about the horror genre, and I can really see potential in Rob Zombie's work.

Lastly, this list was freaking hard, there are so many great scary movies that I love and to name only 10 gave me a headache :P

I don't have ten, but I got a few (in no particular order):

The Descent-That movie scared the crap out of me! Watching it in a house alone at nighttime added to the terror. I barely got through it.

The Changeling-Saw it when I was about 8. It traumatized me so bad. The part where you can here the little boy say his name during the seance almost made me pee my pants. Also, when the little girl sees Gabriel in the water. And when the dad throws the red ball into the river, then drives back home and the red ball is falling down the stairs again.

The Amytiville Horror(The Original)- Saw it when I was 7 and when I was already scared to death, my sister decided to tell me that it was a true story. I literally did not watch it again until I was 16 and my family forced me to watch it, even then. Plus that little song that they had is enough to give even the oldest and bravest of adults nightmares.

The Exorcist-The whole movie was just creepy.

7. The Ring- I thought the ring was a very scary scary movie, it continues to freak me out

5. The Texas Chainsaw massacre (the original!) so much scarier than the remake
4. Rosemary's Baby- This movie is freakin' scary. I am 23 and it scared the crap out of me.
3. When a Stranger Calls (the original) and Midnight Lace (a Doris Day movie!!)
2. The Exorcism of Emily Rose- i thought it was a lot scarier than the exorcist movie from the 1970s.

Most of the things that still scare me to this day, are things that can't be explained.

10. Wait Until Dark - Being blind and being attacked by vicious men is creepy.
9. 1408 - Many scary scenes in that movie.
8. Psycho - The end scene was such a shocker.
7. Signs - The birthday party scene made me put up my feet in the movie theatre.
6. The Shining - The mentality of Jack and what he does to Shelley is horrifying.
5. The Descent - When the ladies see the creature in the videocamera.
4. Pet Semetary - I'm including this on my list because I saw it when I was younger, and I had to turn it off when the kid came back from the dead.
3. The Blair Witch Project - The whole fact of being lost and having no idea what's attacking you is terrifying.
2. It - I was afraid to step near the drain in a shower for a long time.
1. Dead Silence - One of the only movies that made me afraid when I thought about it in bed.
