What's your list of the top 10 scariest movies ever

10.A Nightmare on Elm Street
"Elm Street" was one of the greatest horror movies ever made, yet, one of the scariest. Freddy Krueger delivers thrills and chills in this exceptional horror flick.

9. Carrie
"Carrie" was a classic academy-award winning Stephen King movie. Not because it was scary, but because it was an outstanding movie. Not only did I find it as an outstanding film, but I also found it as a horrorfest.

8. Wes Craven's New Nightmare
"New Nightmare" was the 7th film in the "Elm Street" series. I found it more shocking, jaw-dropping, and intense than the other "Elm Street" flicks.

7. Final Destination
Even though FD1 wasn't as scary as FD3, it still delivered jaw-dropping intensity that's sure to make you scream during the airplane crash scene. (It seems so real!)

6. Pet Sematary
Most people find this movie as "okay" and "incomplete," but I found it as "terrifying" and "some gruesome goodness."

5. Final Destination 3
I've been haunted by this movie ever since I watched it. It's so scary...I can now barely ride a rollercoaster at all.

4. Misery
It's jaw-dropping, it's freaky, it's based on a true story-ish, it's "Misery." This is another very good Stephen King movie, and it sure delivered a bag of surprises. (Wait till you get to the hobbling scene :P)

3. Halloween
There's rarely a successful horror movie that isn't intense and is still a horrormania, and "Halloween" was one of those movies. It was another one of John Carpenter's astonishing movies, and this time it's sure to freak out viewers.

2. The Shining
THIS STEPHEN KING FLICK WAS SCARY!!!! It delivered some horrifying goodness as well as some famous quotes like "Heeeeere's Johnny!" and "Redrum!"

1. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Oh. My. God. THIS CLASSIC HORROR FLICK FREAKED ME OUT. Every time I hear people use "Leather", "Face," and "Chainsaw" in one sentence, I just flip.

Okay, I'll put in my 2 cents, or 10.

10. Freaks- Could not make a movie like that nowadays.

9. Wait Until Dark- Audrey Hepburne is great, and Alan Arkin is just plain scary.

8. Black Christmas- The orignal When A Stranger Calls. Margot Kidder is just plain nuts.

7. Carnival Of Souls- Just a great movie. Makes you think.

6. Night Of The Living Dead- A Classic Zombie Movie.

5. Don't Look Now- A Strange movie, but the ending good.

4. The Shining- What's there to be said about this. REDRUM!!!!!

3. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre- Almost like watching a snuff film. Raw and gritty, but not one drop of blood.

2. Halloween- The mother of all slasher films.

1. The Exorcist- This film distubed me, for weeks. I just plain love it.

Honorable mentions: Seven, All universal Monster movies, The Thing from another world.

Yup. googlie, I forgot about Carnival of Souls! Good one! That one was so before its time. I think they remade it, didn't they? Took away all of the stuff that your mind filled in on the old one. I think it's much scarier when they leave you to imagine something horrible yourself. An example is Texas Chainsaw Massacre '74. There really wasn't any gore so you were left to create the ghastly dismemberment imagery yourself. Much scarier impact on me than a lot of today's horror. Lots of gory things made it on my list, but I hate when they remake something and give us nothing to imagine ourselves.

Here goes my list:

10)Sleepaway Camp - the end is very chilling. perfect slasher shocker ending. the movie is not that scary though.
9)Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me - Bob popping up in Laura Palmers room in that super creepy scene. The ending was messed up too.
8)House of 1000 Corpses - The scene in the underground lair when the girl gets her bunny suit ripped off by those creepy looking dudes. That whole part of the movie is so unpredictable. its like a bad acid trip. Also the Run, Rabbit Run scene is pretty brutal.
7)Cabin Fever - The dream sequence of the guy and the girl making out and then it cuts to the girls rotted away face. Also the girl shaving the skin off her legs.
6)The Evil Dead - One of the greatest and bloodiest horror movies of all time. The possessed teens looks so disgusting. The movies has the constant feeling of helplessness like Texas Chainsaw Massacre. "Look at her eyes!" that scene is pretty freaky.
5)High Tension - the mother gets her throat slit and hand severed and was still alive.
4)Blair Witch Project - just creepy as hell, especially the ending
3)The Shining - The old lady in the bathtub. And the shot of frozen Jack Nicholson in the end is very creepy
2)Muholland Drive - the hobo that comes out of nowhere in the alley and gives the guy a heart attack. I seriously have nightmares like that. And the creepy old people chasing the girl around the house in the end. David Lynch's movies are creepier than most horror movies.
1)Texas Chainsaw Massacre(original) - near the end when the girl is trapped in the house of the Cannibal family. The scene is so hysterical and nightmarish. Another scene that is the closest thing to a bad acid trip.

Honorable mentions:
*Open Water - (spoiler) The school of sharks at the end and the girl realizes there is no hope.
*The Omen II - A woman gets her eyes pecked out by a crow and then wanders a highway, blind, until she is hit by an 18 wheeler. This scene freaked me out as a kid.
*Saw - Guy jumping out of the closet. Guy under the bedsheets in the little girls room.
*Saw II - the wrist slicing device. That scene is disgusting

Alexadre Aja doing Boogeyman? That just may work. The ending will probably be that the boogeyman and the kid he terrorizes are one in the same.

6. Silence of the Lambs - Anything to do with Buffalo Bob.

5. The Shining - Bathtub, nuff said.

4. Jaws - really freaked me out the first time.

3. War of The Worlds (remake) - The scene where they drive through the crowd, and mob mentality takes over as people fight for the car.

2. Hocus Pocus - I was really young when I first saw it, and I didn't finish it. I was absolutely terrified of witches until I watched it the whole way through.

1. Dawn of the Dead (Remake) - Not really the movie itself, but the concept of outrageous amounts of zombies coming after me is the scariest possible thing I can think of. Some images of this movie stick with me and remind me of my biggest fear: Zombies.
