Leo's finest performance?

I thought DiCaprio was immense in this movie. I really believed in the character and thought it was his strongest performance to date. Often I think DiCaprio looks like a boy pretending to be a man in many films but I think his performance was sensational in this vehicle. There was a real gravitas and on screen presence. I now understand what people mean when they call him Scorsese's new De Niro. It is perhaps a little ironic that it took Edward Zwick and not Scorsese to open my eyes to his talent! I very much look forward to watching DiCaprio in the future now.

Leo's accent is bad assaussie/kiwi/african, but what do I know?

No fan of Leo, but he nailed it! Beeeee ' otch!

I agree.
I thought Caprio was immense. He bought the same kind of gravitas to the role that Crowe did to Gladiator.
The scene near the end where he shouts at Solomon to stop carrying him is charged with heartbreak and sadness to a degree that you rarely see in movies.
This is a seriously undervalued movie, Zwick and Caprios best work in my opinion.

I am lukewarm towards De Caprio generally but was blown away with his performance in Blood Diamond. I honestly never knew he was capable of such a performance.

His accent, acting and presence were absolutely top notch.

By far his finest performance.

I think Leo should've got the academy award for this. The 'god left this place a long time ago' scene is absolutely enthralling. I love the little mannerisms and sparks of anger he gives Danny. When he's going on about cutting up baboons or something I can't help cracking up. It's such a severe film to put across comedic relief like that in. Really brightens the progression, you feel like you've known the guy a lot longer.

I know Inception had a wide cast and he had less time to shine with the whirlwind of action swirling about but man in that role does he play a blinder. I really liked Romeo and Juliet, sue me, nowhere near his best of course. Shutter Island was great but no way near Blood Diamond's caliber, the ending is acted beautifully though. Catch Me If You Can was pretty stellar considering it was still so early in his career. Cannot believe how young Di Caprio is. By the time he's finished we'll have a serious contender for the pantheon.

wow, are you kidding? i just saw this film, and thought dicaprio's wretched, hammy acting and ridiculous fake accent, totally trashed what could have been a great film. I do not understand when people praise this guys talent; I have never seen him appear sincere in any film. his style is fake, hollywood style, no better than Brad Pitt. At least Pitt has a sense of humour about himself and seems to be having a good time on screen. But personally, if i see that diCaprio is in a film, I will avoid it.

I think his performance in Django Unchained was his finest, but this comes pretty close. He is a truly remarkable actor.

You can knock on Ed Wood but it won't do you no good 'cause all of my heroes are dead in Hollywood

I have liked Leo in almost all the roles mentioned on this board but up until until now I believe his best performance was in What's Eating Gilbert Grape. (the last thing I've seen him in is The Wolf of Wallstreet)

If you're on the fence about his acting abilities, try watching Gilbert Grape. He was still in his teens when he made it and his raw talent was stunning.
