I thought DiCaprio was immense in this movie. I really believed in the character and thought it was his strongest performance to date. Often I think DiCaprio looks like a boy pretending to be a man in many films but I think his performance was sensational in this vehicle. There was a real gravitas and on screen presence. I now understand what people mean when they call him Scorsese's new De Niro. It is perhaps a little ironic that it took Edward Zwick and not Scorsese to open my eyes to his talent! I very much look forward to watching DiCaprio in the future now.
i would say his best performance was in "the departed".. cant beat that emotionally deep and desperate character of billy costigan!! but it really doesn matter cause leo is the best actor .. the aviator and blood diamond follows in his outstanding performances!!
He's always been a good actor. Even in Titanic he gave an excellent performance. People just hated him cos the movie was so successful. I think he should some less serious movies as well. It's like he's trying too hard to please the critics with movies like The Aviator and Revolutionary Road. He should do the odd blockbuster here and there. But make sure it's good unlike Body of Lies.
Totally Right!! i dont Know how people can even hate a actor like leo!! he is terrific in what he does!! the hatred of people towards leo that started during titanic is still puttin him down!! i was thinkin maybe acting in "titanic" was leo's big mistake..
hopefully Shutter Island and inception might get this so called critics to understand his acting skills better!!
The preteen girls majorly constitute in destroying a actor's career in hollywood.. first leo now robbert pattinson , zac effron ... to be continued in the future!!
Although I personally think Zac effron has got great talent unlike rob p though!!
I'm sorry as I might be the only person who disagrees, but I did not think this was Leo's finest performance, mainly because of the accent. I watched this for my Historical Context of Theatre lesson today and that is what we all picked up on. Leo was unable to keep up a consistent accent, which started out sounding Australian, then went slightly British...only once or twice did he actually "sound" South African. This ruined some of the movie for me. However, I do admit, accent aside, it was an enjoyable role to see Leo portray. If he had the accent spot on, I would consider it to be his finest performance. But it wasn't, so I don't.
'What I calls, enterprise. Popping pussies into pies!'
seriously? I am Australian and I live in Britain so I know first hand what both accents sound like and he never once sounded like an Aussie or Brit. Archer is a Rhodesian (now Zimb) that has spent a long time in South Africa, Leo got the mixture almost perfect. I have several friends from that part of Africa and they agree he did a fine job.
He is remarkable indeed. I'm just shocked at how well he pulled off the accent. One of my friends is South African and he sounds exactly like him. Top marks Leo.
He was decent, but I don't think it was as good as his breakout performance in the Departed. In the Departed he really showed the inner turmoil of Billy Costigan, he was like an incendiary bomb waiting to go off. Another one of his great performances was in Revolutionary Road, where his character was boiling just beneath the surface.
