Awful movie. Actually a really awful movie.

I downloaded this because it looked great and the reviewer said "Greater than Saw!"

Needles to say it was the biggest heap of *beep* I've ever seen. NOT RECOMMENDED.

Urgh, what an Emo Vamp flick! Just saw it. Terrible. I mean, as it was, the police were overly stupid too. What was up with that?! In many cases, the police are always on everybody's asses, even those who aren't commiting any crimes, and especially because of Wendell's infamous "record" of killing local girls, the Hamiltons STILL escape scott-free. Then Francis's emo whining. Just wanted to shoot him. Then, of course, can't have a modern vamp flick without the GOTH vamp chick, Darlene. I'm SOOOOOO damn tired of goth vampires.

reply

i heard it was good and wanted to see it but if it has emo vampires in it then no the f*uck way.

i'm usually good at predicting outcomes of horror movies and if it's that cliche then i guess i don't wanna bother anymore b/c i'll figure out the movie in the first 15 minutes. i was just gonna ask where i could download it but if i'm going to be rly bored through it then forget it.

Redfield FTW!

Hmmm, yeah, I just saw this. I've always got to give props for the effort. And the "Butcher Brothers", that's an awesome moniker. But the storytelling was poor. The nuggets of drama were surrounded by seas of nothing. It was like watching a time expanded late night Cinemax movie. Telling a good story is harder than it seems. I hope they've got better at it since they're making the April Fools Day remake.

reply

I totally agree, it was badly acted, badly directed, had a plot as thin as toilet paper and wasn't particularly scary or gory, 2/10.

"Oh, you look lovely this evening. Have you decreased in mass?

reply

berts, 2/10 is way too generous. 1/10 at most.

This was pitiful.

my little 3 year old sister could pick up a digital camera and it would look better than this total sh!t masquarading as a horror movie...... sorry but it's true.

reply

It's a new take on the modern horror movie. OK, so it's not scary, but at least it's character-driven. That's what is really important about horror movies. The way a movie like "The Descent" could have improved was to add a little more character development, get you to care about the characters before they're massacred or w/e. Hamiltons is like a drama about a vampire family. Even though it may not work technically as a horror film, it's still entertaining and a relatively original concept. Regardless, one thing's for sure: Hamiltons was so much better than any of the other *beep* horrorfest films (Dark Ride and Gravedancers set aside)

The movie wasn't awful in my opinion, but pretty disappointing. The story isn't bad at all, but the movie is not scary, it's not atmospheric, I didn't like the twins and their acting and the movie looked awfully cheap.

reply

I actually didnt like untill the twist in the end witch made it very interesting. But please, how hard is it to make a movie better than saw?

reply

The ending was hardly a twist. I knew what the "twist" was since they were having dinner.
It had a good story, and this could have been a good movie - but the effort wasn't put in to the script.
I was sooo excited to see Lenny... that must've been the biggest let-down ever. It would've been better with a were-rabbit or something.

I can't understand how this is even remotely comparable to saw. Saw has twists and turns and psychological mind-games, this is not even close to that.
And again, like with all the other horrorfest movies I've seen, this is not a horrormovie. This is a thriller that has some blood in it.
The horrorfest movies are probably the least scary movies I've ever seen. Even House of wax was scarier.. partly cos of Paris Hilton's scary nature, but still.
Snoozefest is more like it.

reply

THis was movie was a absolute waste of time. It's not scary, it's LAME! Bad acting coupled with a carppy storyline.

reply

I had to fastforward through most of this since it was just so dull and poorly acted. There were always these awkward pauses and just poor acting. I was intrigued by Lenny, but after I actually saw him, it was a let-down. I did like the twist at the end though. It was probably the only enjoyable part.

reply

I can for sure enjoy movies based alone on good characters and good dialogue, but to say this was all about that is silly. It had neither.

Even if it did have both of those things, it wouldn't ultimately matter a bit because the actors clearly didn't have the proper strength and talent to make it work. That's probably pretty harsh, but as I sit here watching their latest I couldn't help but remember how bad The Hamiltons was.

It seemed like they threw around curse words left and right to try and attach some emotional gravitas to the script, ones sorely lacking. It's like you can picture them sitting at a table going, "this needs more oomph, throw a *beep* or a s*** in there!"

One more thing, who told them the "Butcher Brothers" sounded cool?

That's not fair. I LOVE The Devil's Rejects, The Descent, and 28 Days Later, and I hated this. I have nothing against low-budget flicks, Mulberry Street was an excellent example of how to do it. This was not.

Don't even get me started on Saw, I'd rather cut off my own leg than watch it (or any of its sequels) again.

to the end - theyre all vampires, such an old cliche

if electionnightspecial thinks Saw is a decent horror movie, then electionnightspecial doesnt know squat about the horror genre

Screw CGI! Bring back scale models, matte painting, mechanical effects and ingenuity

reply

Ummm is it ok to like The Descent, 28 Day's Later and Saw? I mean I think if Saw wasn't such a blockbuster phenomenom people wouldn't hate it so much. I think people are just annoyed with it's popularity so they over exaggerate the flaws of the film.

Well onto the Hamiltons... Umm basically this movie was awful. I mean it's by no means the worst movie I've ever seen. The story was ok, but not very original and so dramatic and cheesey. It was almost like a Lifetime original "Growing up Vampire". I found all the characters except for Sam to be annoying as hell. The acting especially from the four family members... ESPECIALLY FRANCIS... was beyond awful. Might not be the worst movie I have ever seen, but the acting was some of the worst ever. The dialog was awful. The notion that they have killed like 200 people without covering their tracks and nothing has been discovered is pretty ludacris. I couldn't stand the angsty mopiness of the characters. It wasn't very scary or supsenful. I hope whoever made this doesn't make any more films like this..

In the end I guess they wanted us to sympathize with this pack of losers, but I wanted them all to die.

P.S. Lenny also sucked.
