how true is this story?

i thought elvis and the beatles were good friends, and i really didn't know he was such a jerk. did he really throw a pool stick at a girl and break her ankle? i thought elvis was different i'm only 18 so i don't know any true stories. can someone clarify all this stuff for me? the pills, the beatles, the anger, etc.

Ya never go full retard.

They stretched the truth quite a bit in this one. Although, Hollywood is very good at doing that. If they did'nt, you'd never watch.

He did hurt a woman with a pool stick, that is true. He had bursts of uncontrollable anger occasionally, mostly due to pills.
When he actually met the Beatles he jad a good time with them but later on when Beatles talked openly about their drug (LSd etc.) use Elvis thought that was irresponsible and talked bad about them.

Anyway, with all the faults he had he was still generous and caring man and there are lots of stories how he helped and comforted people in their sorrow or financial trouble.

Elvis did have his spouts of anger, just like anyone else did, it just seems worse because he was famous and the average Joe Blow isnt.

Elvis got hooked on perscription medication thanks to our wonderful military, and they influenced him negatively for the rest of his life.

as far as the beatles, i think they intimidated E a little bit. he did have them over to his home in California, but it wasnt a planned thing and he didnt return the favor of visiting them while they were still in town.

if you want to know more about what Elvis was like as a person, read "Me and a Guy Named Elvis", written by one fo his best friends, Jerry Schilling. its a wonderful book because it shows not only the good but the bad sides of Elvis, and everything else inbetween.

Well said. I can't say I like this version of the Elvis as much as ones in the past. I'm not really sure why. Maybe the "added" too much to this story. I also thought the 68 comeback special recreation was weak. No passion no soul. Something Elvis never lacked.

This film took a couple of unconfirmed rumors about Elvis as factual. For example, according to the movie Elvis joined the army because he was drafted. There is such a conspiracy theory that says the government drafted him to slow down his career because of the percieved negative impact of his music, but that has never been confirmed. It might very well be that Elvis joined the army just because he wanted to do so, or that Coronel Parker encouraged him to do so because of his own experiences in the army. Also, it has never been confirmed that the reason Elvis did not tour overseas is because of Coronel Parker's immigration issues (though he did stay behind in Washington when Elvis performed in Vancouver).

Jerry Schilling's book is a good place to start, if you're really interested in Elvis' life.

Then, read both books by Peter Guralnick. He spent 15 years of his life researching and gluing the books together. All his statements are backed up by notes, and references. The books are neither positive or negative, he just presents facts written in a very eloquent and beautiful way.

Elvis Presley was a wonderful person, but he had his flaws like anybody else.

Thanks for the book recommendations, I'll look into them!

I think mainly this movie is a work of fiction. The movie illustrates Elvis using drugs. Elvis never used drugs nor did he have any bad habits

reply

Oh, that's all false. He may not have used drugs like cocaine or weed or LSD like the normal stereotypical hippie or other rock bands of the day. But it seems to be well documented that he was addicted to prescription pills. But didn't think he had a problem because they were all legally prescribed. All the movies try and portray it, but people will never understand the amount of pressure and the neck break pace he was living. He needed pills to sleep, pills to wake him up. diet pills because he was struggling with his weight...no doubt from stress. So saying he 'never did drugs' is incorrect. he did; just not in the way we think of 'using drugs' in the 60s and 70s was.

Thanks for the clarification
