Hilary Swank just isn't pretty enough...

As an actress I do like Hilary, I think she deserved her Oscars for Million Dollar Baby and Boys Don't Cry, but when I see her in a movie like this, she just seems so unfitting. I think that an actress like Jennifer Garner would have been a better fit.

OP- I agree Hilary Swank isn't pretty enough, but Jennifer Garner, is BY FAR uglier than Hilary Swank!!! Way, way, waaaaaaaaaayyy uglier!!!! Ironic that you would post something like this then follow it up with someone even WORSE!!!

in one of the scenes I thought hilary looked like jennifer.

i thought exactly the opoosite: gerard butler just isn't suave enough. i found him a little disgusting, to be honest.

I think Hilary Swank gave a great and believable performance. Her look seemed almost versatile. She pulled off the mature business woman look, but she was easily also able to look timid and vulnerable -- and almost young -- when a scene called for it

You people are all high! =P

I've liked Hilary in everything I've seen her in (except for that awful Karate Kid 4 movie).

Not pretty enough? The HELL you say! She is a quite stunning and beautiful woman. Obviously you missed the first karaoke scene.

I always thought Hilary bared more resemblance to Neve Campbell (Scream 1) than Jennifer Garner. But maybe that's just me - it's the facial expressions.
Secondly - not pretty enough for what exactly? Believe it or not, even ugly people fall in love.

I agree. I find Hilary Swank very attractive, with amazingly expressive eyes, and a sexy figure and voice. Just saw P.S. I love You last night, and I will watch it for her, for sure.

And I do think she and Jennifer Garner should play sisters.

People, attractiveness is subjective. It's all opinion, so trying to convince one person's opinion is better, or more right, than another person's is ridiculous.

Now, my opinion: Hilary Swank is definitely appealing to the eyes, but what's most important is the casting... does she fit the role? I think she fits it alright, not perfect but alright. Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan fit You've got Mail perfectly... Gerard was excellent but I think the chemistry between him and Swank was off, or not as strong as it could've been.

It's my opinion that Gerard's character was dynamic - accent, from a different country, sings... it's a complex role that I believed, as if the real Gerard Butler did those things in the past. The part of Holly is a cookie-cutter role, in that any female could play her, right? As long as the age is similar to Gerard, they could've casted any female actress. omg I need to write a 7 page discourse due in three hours FML! bye

I thought she was a great fit for this part and she deserved all the acclaim that came with this as she did a fantastic job with what she was given.

Definitely an amazing casting choice and fit the vision of Holly. Not to mention, she has definite chemistry with Gerard Butler!

I agree, the casting was perfect. Who's to say she's not pretty enough? I think she fit the part to a tee. Such a terrific actress. The opening scenes show great chemistry with Gerard Butler. I thought this was an excellent film. I also believe someone who is a young widow could relate perfectly. Heartbreaking as it is.

What does looks have to do with talent? Jennifer Garner would've been horrible in this film. Sorry but she isn't a great actress. Hilary Swank is a pretty girl and an amazing actress, I couldn't see any one else in this film but her.

reply

OP: you're insane. I think that Hilary Swank was amazing in this. She is an amazingly talented actress and you can feel her grief in the very core of you.this movie hits me so hard every time because she does such an wonderful job it makes me relateeven thoughi have never been in her position. It causes me to feel her grief bc it causes me to imagine how I would feel if I lost my fiancee. If that makes any sense. Haha.

Anyway the point I'm trying to get to is jennifer gardener would not have done such an amazing job and I could totally see this film as another cheesy romcom if it had been her as holly. With hilary it touches your heart.

When you grow up, your heart dies.

Yes, had to believe a plain jane like Swank could pull such handsome men. But more of a stretch was Kudrow, who looked hideous enough even under an inch of makeup, apparently seducing guys half her age and being able to by ridiculously picky about them... yeah right.

reply

I think she's the prettiest thing in Hollywood.... oh well! Opinions vary.
