He would never suggest such a thing before he had the chance to listen to it himself, of course. What a douchebag. It's like those people who go search out 911 calls on Youtube (River Phoenix for instance), then after listening to them, say "omg this shouldn't be publicly available, it's PRIVATE". Ridiculous hypocrites.

It really irritates me that Herzog listened to the tape then he told Timothy's ex girlfriend to never listen to it. I almost feel like he got complete satisfaction from listening to the tape and he knows nobody else will get to listen to it; it's almost like a power trip. What a hypocrite and a jerk.....

This behavior on the part of Herzog is why I take the documentary with a grain of salt. I don't find him very reliable.

Agreed. Plus, I have to wonder how scary the real audio was. I think Herzog exaggerated it because the other people that listened to the audio didn’t seem that affected by it. I think Herzog made a production out of it to gain attention from people. What a creep.
