The Poorest film in the IMDB top 250

Whilst I agree that I must be in the minority here, I must admit to being baffled at the high rating. I don't recall laughing once.

When I compare the comedies of the last 40 years to this - and I realise how mnay greats this has topped - then I start to worry about the world we live in.

No wonder this planet is doomed - 90% of its inhabitants are idiots! (yes, i'm in the 10%)

John Candy would be spinning in his grave.

jobo_85 - how can you speak for John Candy? Based on some of his movies (Harry Crumb for one) he might just luv this film. You two must have been very close for you to speak for him now.

I agree top 250 films of all time - no - but funny? YES.

Abby -- You can't rush science, Gibbs! You can yell at it and scream at it, but you can't rush it.

This is the first Simon Pegg film I've really liked.

However I have to agree it doesn't belong in the top 250 films.

And what's Batman Begins doing there? Seriously overrated.

Maybe its due to the same people who were voting for The Dark Knight before it had even been released.

I would say it shows the people voting are unsophisticated or have terminally short memories.

This is reminiscent of those polls for the best albums ever etc, where bands like Oasis are at the top above the Beatles.

Found Shaun of the dead mildly amusing but this one was a miss. Save the last part I don't recall laughing at this movie. Comedy has been in trouble for a while but this movie is not a product of it, its just a miss for me that's all. I would prefer the British humor to the current toilet humor trend that keeps going about in the States.

Also Batman Begins was a good movie, good enough to be on that list I think and so does TDK. Probably the most sober version of the Batman since Keaton and a re visioned Joker that actually is more menacing than annoying. Also it brings out the intelligence factor between the two adversaries, since they are not truly superhero capable of incredible physical feats they do use their heads and outsmart each other. The only thing I would prefer is to get someone to handle the action sequence, I get the idea of the blur effect durng the fights but its more disorienting and takes away from the movie somewhat.

This film is pretty average,a couple of laughs, entertaining enough, I liked the characters...
but I'm baffled at the high rating here and on rotten tomatoes.

Maybe I just prefer 'broad' humour like Naked Gun, Flying High, A fish called Wanda, Dumb and Dumber and Monty Python movies etc. etc.

...now those are good comedies!

To the OP:

This is coming from a guy who says this in a Step Brothers board.

"Stepbrothers was a breath of fresh air. The problem in the last few years is that filmmakers have tried to shake off the American Pie image and present comedies with intelligent writing and dynamic use of narrative - what a pile of Bull.

We're not looking for Academy Awards - just light humour. The humour you clearly missed is called 'situation comedy'. "

You call us idiots and yet you would rather take the intelligience out of comedy. Its people like you that promote stupid movies like Epic Movie. Take your 10% with you and jump off a cliff please.
